Flood Disaster: CDHR Threatens To Drag FG To ICJ Over Negligence

Rising from its 34th annual general conference, the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, has threatened to drag the Federal Government of Nigeria before the International Court of Justice over what it termed “artificial flood disaster” occasioned by government’s negligence.

The threat is contained in a statement signed by Comrade Israel Joe and made available to DAILY POST.

The CDHR said the move is to compel the Federal Government to compensate citizens affected by the flood, especially in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.

The CDHR said the artificial flood caused by the negligence of the Federal Government has killed about 612 people.

It said the government should assume responsibility by law to adequately compensate victims and rebuild the houses destroyed by the flood.

“They should answer questions as to where countless billions of our ecological funds have been kept and use same for this purpose,” it said.

Comrade Israel Joe had at the annual general conference of the CDHR held at its National Secretariat in Lagos State moved a motion for the CDHR to drag the Federal Government before the International Court of Justice, ICJ, to compensate flood victims, especially in the Niger Delta and compel the FG to build dams and dredge coastal waters.

Cristiano Ronaldo Wins Legal Battle Against Juventus, To Be Paid £8.3m

Juventus have reportedly been ordered to pay Cristiano Ronaldo £8.3million after losing an arbitration case to their former player.

Back in September, Ronaldo – who now plays for Saudi side Al-Nassr decided to take legal action against Juventus over unpaid wages during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Portuguese forward wanted to be paid £17million, the net amount that he was promised by the club when he agreed to defer his wages during lockdown.

Juventus players agreed to defer four months’ worth of their salaries in March 2020 and April 2021 as the club were struggling financially, which was never received.

The Italian side also failed to report these deferred wages – known as ‘salary manoeuvres’ on their financial statements.

According to Gazzetta, the arbitration tribunal, however, ruled that Ronaldo and Juventus share responsibility over the matter and ordered the club to pay half of the deferred wages.

The 38-year-old left Juventus in August 2021 after spending three seasons at the club, where he scored 101 goals in 134 appearances in black and white.

The veteran forward now plays for Saudi side Al-Nassr and was recently sent off for violent conduct during their 2-1 defeat against Al-Hilal.

The 39-year-old, who was shown a yellow card in the first half for unsportsmanlike conduct, appeared to throw his elbow at Al-Hilal’s Ali Al-Bulaihi in the second half as the five-time Ballon d’Or winner attempted to take a quick throw-in. He was shown a red card for the assault.

‘Have Some Conscience’ – Lady Tackles Salvation Ministries Founder, Ibiyeomie, Over 20% Of Salary As Offering Preaching [VIDEO]

A Nigerian lady has taken a swipe at Salvation Ministries founder, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, for saying his church members should give at least 20 per cent of their salaries as offerings after giving 10 percent of their salaries as tithes.

The lady stated that Pastor Ibiyeomie should have some ‘’conscience” and shouldn’t be making such demands given the economic situation in the country.

She further described it as “thievery”, adding that it should stop as people have other needs aside from taking care of burdens from the church.

The TikTok user also described churches as business enterprises where Christians try to convince other Christians to come to their church even when they are aware of the other person’s faith.

She said this reminds her of marketers who try to convince others to use the services of their firm.

Burna Boy Named Among TIME’s 100 Most Influential People Of 2024

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy, has landed a spot in Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2024.

Legendary Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo wrote a tribute to the ‘Last Last’ crooner on Time’s website.

She noted that Burna Boy played a pivotal role in the global acceptance of African music.
