Foundation Takes Climate Change, Renewable Energy Adoption Campaign To UNIBEN

In its commitment to creating awareness on climate change among the populace and promoting renewable energy adoption, a non-profit organisation, LILBECKKING DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION, weekend trained some students of higher institutions of learning.

The workshop which was held in Benin with the theme: ‘Youth Action on Clean Energy’ was attended by students of the University of Benin.

INFO DAILY reports that the workshop was aimed at educating youth on both the consequences of climate change and potential solutions through cleaner power sources.

In her teaching, Elvira Jordan who happened to be one of the resource persons, said switching to cleaner energy sources is the way to go, as, according to her, it slows down climate change.

She said “transitioning our energy systems and investing in renewable technologies, we reduce
the amount of heat-trapping gases accumulating in our skies.”

Jordan added: “Switching to more clean energy is better for both the environment and public health as it helps reduce air pollution, slows climate change and lessens impacts like flooding.

“That’s because solar, wind and hydro power don’t burn fuels and release greenhouse gases when generating electricity.”

She continued: “In other words, clean energy is beneficial both for protecting our planet against global warming and building a more sustainable Nigeria for generations to come.”

In his remarks, Secretary of the foundation, Mr. Destiny Aigbokhae, said the foundation is passionate about bringing the positive change needed among Nigerian students hence the workshop.

He said as a body committed to youth and community development, there is this belief among leadership of the foundation that “today’s youth will play a defining role in transforming energy access and infrastructures nationwide by fostering awareness and providing practical
knowledge.”

Aigbokhae, while further expressing the foundation commitment to development and change, promised to take the training to other sectors.

“This will not stop with the students and schools alone, we are also taking this to the health sectors as it is the aim course of the foundation to promote good health and a better community,” he added.

The workshop climaxed with painting and illustration of climate change and it impacts on the society, and possible solutions by artists invited.

Xenophobic Attacks: Nigerian Students To Picket MTN, MultiChoice, Other Businesses

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS South-West Zone D, has announced plans to picket South African companies in Nigeria following the ongoing xenophobic attacks in the country.

DAILY POST reports that some Nigerians were recently killed in South Africa over the violent attacks.

A statement issued to newsmen by Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, Coordinator, NANS South-West, Zone D, said that the association is mobilizing to take decisive and lawful action by organizing peaceful picketing and mass advocacy against South African business interests operating in Nigeria.

“We categorically state that the continued targeting of Nigerians under any guise is unacceptable and must come to an immediate end.

N5m, N10m Zero-interest Loans: SheVentures Opens Applications For Women Entrepreneurs

First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has opened a new round of applications for its SheVentures proposition, offering zero-interest loans of up to ₦10 million to women entrepreneurs to ease access to working capital and support business growth.

The facility provides loans ranging from ₦500,000 to ₦5 million under a general category, and ₦5 million to ₦10 million for sector-specific businesses, with funding capped at up to 50% of an applicant’s average monthly turnover.

At the centre of the offering is a 0% interest rate, with all charges embedded in a transparent structure.

Repayment is structured over four or six months, allowing businesses to match obligations with their cash flow cycles.

Yemisi Edun, Managing Director and Chief Executive of First City Monument Bank (FCMB), said the initiative reflects a deliberate approach to inclusive growth.

“Women-led enterprises are critical to economic activity, yet they face structural barriers.
