Published

The Senator representing Kogi West, Smart Adeyemi has called on the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to confer National Merit Award on Northern governors for the heroic role they played in shifting power from the North to the South in the All Progressives Congress.

According to him, having won this election, some of them sat down and meditated on how the APC got this far to win and noted the great role of Northern governors.

Senator Adeyemi on Wednesday while addressing journalists in Abuja said the APC as a whole must thank the Northern governors who came to a consensus.

He noted that the decision helped the emergence of the best candidate Nigeria has ever produced for the presidential election “A man of a good antecedent, a man known not to be sentimental, a man of great strength of character, intelligence, a man that is cerebral and highly mobile, a man with a great record of service to God and humanity.”

Adeyemi after congratulating the president-elect, noted, “We have to commend Northern governors because no matter how good a building is, you would have to look at the foundation.

“Our candidate, incoming president and his vice came this far because the Northern governors concluded that the presidency should be zoned from the North to the South.”

He added, “To me, the Northern governors deserve National Merit Award for what they have done. If the North had insisted on fielding a candidate, then only God knows what would happen to Nigeria. The governor we have today in the North, I see them as the new Sardauna, the premier of the Northern region.

“When I speak about Sardauna, I speak against the background of his qualities, how he governed the diverse North and today we still have monuments of his achievements in every part cutting across ethnicity and tribe.”

Senator Adeyemi added, “What makes a good leader is to have a large heart and be considerate to other people. Today, the Northern governors have proved to the whole world that they are the new Sardauna of this generation. The only way to compensate them is for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to give all the Northern governors that came together and said power must move to the South National Merit Award.

“Whenever the history of this dispensation will be written, the role of Northern governors at that convention will be an integral part of it. It will be said the North in their wisdom came together and said let power shift to the South”.

The lawmaker also deviated into the issue of the delayed result by the electoral body.

He said, “Those crying foul over the election results released by INEC had planned to hack the INEC server and spent a lot of money on that, but it failed as INEC delayed the uploading of results.”

He said the country will thank God someday that they have elected Tinubu Shettima because they will “make Nigeria very prosperous.”

Of serious concern is the persistent public media outbursts against our Party by some prominent members whose actions and utterances including their public declaration of support and willingness to work for the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 Presidential election in violation of the provision of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) constitute a serious threat to the stability and sustenance of our Party.”

The PDP noted that such actions violate Section 10(6) of its constitution, which prohibits members from aligning with other parties or groups to undermine the PDP or its elected officials.

“Specifically, Section 10 (6) of the PDP Constitution provides that “NO MEMBER of the Party SHALL align with other Parties or groups to undermine the Party or any of its elected government”.

Such anti-party activities have continued to impact negatively on the PDP leading to division, disaffection and heavy hemorrhaging of members with the capacity to diminish our Party’s electoral fortune if not immediately checked,” the statement noted.

Citing Section 59(1) of its constitution, the NWC issued a strong reprimand to the members involved, warning that failure to retrace their steps would attract stiffer sanctions.

The party urged all members to remain loyal and focused as it prepares for its national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
