Gov. Mohammed Swears In 20 LGA Chairmen

Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state, on Sunday, sworn in the 20 newly elected Executive Local Government Chairmen at the state Government House.
It could be recalled that Mr Ahmed Makama, the Chairman of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), on Saturday, announced that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
won all the 20 chairmanship seats in the Local Government election conducted on Saturday.
Makama, who stated that the election was conducted peacefully across the state, added that other parties emerged victorious in the councilorship as the results were declared in the wards.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony, Gov. Bala Mohammed congratulated them for emerging victorious at their various LGAs.
He said that his administration believed that the people should have a say in the local government administration through an elected council comprising Chairmen and Councilors.
“This is more so now that the local governments have been granted autonomy by the Supreme Court to run their affairs.
“It is for this reason that our party, the PDP nominated and presented knowledgeable, experienced and competent candidates buying for both Chairmanships and councilorships during the election.

“With the victory of our candidates, I’m confident that we will have the desired leadership to effectively administer our local governments as autonomous third tier of government,” he said
Mohammed further called on the elected Chairmen to cooperate with the state government and work together to serve the people of the state better.
Speaking on behalf of other LG Chairmen, Mahmood Baba-Maji, the Bauchi Local Government Chairman, expressed gratitude to the state governor for the trust reposed in them.
He promised that they would leave no stone unturned to justify the confidence reposed in them.

“We will serve our various local governments diligently and we assure you that all your policies and programmes will be replicated in our various local governments.
The Chief Judge of the state, Justice Rabi Umar, administered the oath of allegiance and office to the 20 newly elected Chairmen.
The local government election was conducted following the recent judgment of the Supreme Court, which affirmed local government’s autonomy,
The judgment is seeking the Federation Account Allocation Committee to withhold funds meant for LGs without democratically elected officials.

2027: Wike Refuses To Confirm Or Deny Chinda’s Governorship Bid
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has reacted to reports that a federal lawmaker, Okey Chinda, has obtained forms to contest the Rivers State governorship election under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Speaking during a media chat on Wednesday, Wike neither confirmed nor denied the reports about Chinda’s alleged ambition.
However, he maintained that the PDP in Rivers State will participate in the upcoming election.

Responding to Dax George-Kelly, who is also said to have obtained a governorship nomination form under the All Progressives Congress, APC, Wike said George-Kelly is a member of the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State.
He stated that the coalition will collectively decide which candidate to support when the time comes.

Peter Obi Meets US Consul General, Hopes For Credible Polls In 2027
Chieftain of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi on Tuesday held a meeting with United States Consul General, Mr Rick Swart.
Obi made this known via his X handle.

He said “This morning, in Lagos, I met with the U.S. Consul General, Mr Rick Swart, where we discussed strengthening the bilateral relationship. We focused on promoting credible elections in Nigeria, ensuring they are free from interference, and fostering a space where all political parties, especially opposition parties can thrive, and contribute.
“We also discussed trade and business opportunities between our countries. Accompanying me to the meeting was Dr Adefolaseye Adebomi Adebayo.
“The discussion was very productive, and we are hopeful that, moving forward, Nigeria’s elections will be even more credible and transparent.”

BREAKING: 17 ADC Reps Follow Join NDC
About 17 African Democratic Congress, ADC, lawmakers in the House of Representatives have defected to the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC.
This was disclosed by Speaker Abass Tajudeen on the floor of the House on Tuesday.
Tajudeen also announced the defection of Leke Abejide from the ADC to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Lawmakers who defected to the NDC include Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, George Oluwande and Munachim Umezuruike.
Others are Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene and Abdulhakeem Ado.
This comes barely a day after former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso defected from the ADC to the NDC.
Obi and Kwankwaso have pledged to continue their pursuit for a better Nigeria in the NDC.
