Gov’s Nephew, Security Officers Die, Residents Blame Bad Road

Amadu Ali, the nephew of Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, two security men, identified as Nura Sufyanu and Kabir Ali, have been killed in a motor accident at Gadar Tsuntsaye, in the Musawa Local Government Area of the state.

Masari’s Director General of Social Media, El-Amin Isa, and the spokesman for the Katsina State Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the accident, which happened on Friday.

Other sources revealed that the victims, along with others, were on their way to the governor’s hometown, Kafur, for Saturday’s governorship and state House of Assembly elections.

The sources said the accident was caused by the bad road in the area.

A source said, “The victims were about to get to a bridge in the area on Friday night when they ran into the bad portion of the road, which forced the vehicle they were traveling in to skid and somersault, leading to their death.”

Three others, who sustained injuries in the accident, initially received treatment at the General Hospital, Malumfashi, before they were evacuated to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina.

Arrangements had already begun for their burial on Saturday, as the police spokesman said the bodies of the dead passengers were taken from the scene to a morgue in Katsina.

Isah said, “The accident happened on Friday night. The victims were going to Kafur, the governor’s hometown for the governorship and state House of Assembly elections. We have taken the bodies of the victims to Katsina.”

Meanwhile, the electorate turned out in large numbers at various polling units across the state as early as 7am for the elections.

Accreditation and voting processes were still in progress as of the time of filing this report.

Police Declare Man Wanted For Attempted Murder, Fraud

The Nigeria Police Force has declared one Okoro Prince Nkemakolam wanted for alleged involvement in criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, assault, threat to life, and criminal breach of trust.

The Force made this known in a Special Police Gazette Bulletin released via its official X handle on Thursday.

The Force stated that Nkemakolam is wanted by the Office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Nigeria Police Force (INTERPOL), and the Head National Central Bureau, Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The bulletin stated, “The above-named person is hereby declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force. A warrant of arrest was issued against him by the High Court of Abuja.

“He is wanted for the offence of criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, fraud, threat to life, criminal breach of trust, and attempted murder by attacking the complainant with a machete and knife to the extent that he was admitted and stitched all over his head and his body, escaping death by the whiskers.”

The police described Nkemakolam as a 38-year-old man of medium height and build, with copper complexion and a square-shaped face.

According to the police, the suspect dresses in western clothes and speaks Igbo fluently, and was last seen in Benin/Abakaliki in Umobo community, Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The Force urged members of the public with useful information on his whereabouts to report to the nearest police station or contact the Interpol, Force Headquarters, Abuja, through 080622129151.

JSS 3 Student Hacks Man To Death In Cross River

A Junior Secondary School student in Ugboro Secondary School in Bekwara Local Government Area of Cross River State, identified as Ogbeche, has hacked a 23-year old man to death.

The incident was said to have occurred in Ugboro at the close of school on Tuesday, when Ogbeche and another student whose name was given as Nicholas were engaged in a fight and the deceased known as Oshen went to separate them.

Speaking to Vanguard, an eyewitness simply identified as Lizzy, said while Oshen was separating the fight, Ogbeche took offence that Oshen was siding his opponent and left the fight to pick a pestle used in pounding food and struck Oshen on the head causing him to collapse.

When he picked up the pestle, people were shouting, asking him to drop it but he did not listen. He went ahead to hit Oshen on the head with it.

“You know the pestles we use here are very heavy not like the ones you people use in the town, that was why it could inflict severe damage to the head with just one strike,” Lizzy said.

According to her, Oshen did not die on the spot but was rushed to a hospital at Ogoja, where he died same Tuesday night.

Oshen’s father, known as Oshen Ushaka, was one of the early rich men we had here in Bekwara. He passed on some years back and his children are the ones occupying his compound,” she added.

The eyewitness further explained that Ogbeche has a record of regular fights and, some times, he attacked his fellow students with machete but there had been no casualty until the Tuesday incident.

It was gathered that the assailant was arrested by the police and is currently at the Ogoja prison.

Police Restores Peace After Bomb Explosion Rocks Imo Community

The Imo State Police Command has restored peace and order in Obinwanne Community, Njaba LGA, after a bomb explosion rocked the area, killing the carrier and injuring two others.

A press statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, stated that the community was thrown into panic following the incident, but the swift intervention of police personnel restored normalcy.

He explained that operatives from the Njaba Divisional Headquarters received a distress call alerting them to the incident, which led to the immediate mobilisation of officers to the scene.

It was confirmed that the blast was caused by an explosive device carried by one Mr Chinworeke Mmadu from Ebonyi State, which detonated prematurely, leading to fatal injuries that later claimed his life.

According to the statement, two passers-by who sustained injuries were rushed to Santa Maria Hospital, where they remain in stable condition.

“In furtherance of the response, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Hamzat A. Abdulkadir, visited the scene with operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal, EOD, Unit. The area was carefully swept and has been declared safe for public use,” he added.

Okoye further disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed the deceased was carrying the explosive device, and inquiries are ongoing to determine his motive and possible affiliations.

Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma, while responding to the development, wished the injured victims a speedy recovery and assured Imo residents of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

He also urged members of the public to remain calm, be security-conscious, and provide timely information to aid security efforts.

Danjuma further advised the public to report any suspicious item or object to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines for prompt action.
