Heavy Security As Osun PDP Elects Gov Candidate

There was heavy security presence at Osogbo City Stadium on Tuesday as Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State elects its candidate for the 2022 governorship election.

2018 governorship candidate of the party, Senator Ademola Adeleke is coming up against Prince Dotun Babayemi and Mr. Sanya Ominrin for the ticket.

Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, Dele Adeleke and Fatai Akinbade had announced withdrawal from the race.

As part of security measures, a part of the Obafemi Awolowo Way was blocked from traffic.

There was also an unusually large security presence of operatives of State Security Service, police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, men of Road Safety Corps and operatives of Amotekun corps, at the entrance to the venue, as people going in were made to identify themselves.

Traders in the facemask and party insignia also used the opportunity of the convergence of large number of people to make brisk business, selling their wares to party supporters going into the venue.

Apart from screening at the main entrance, there was another screening at the gate leading to the main bowl of the stadium.

As of 09:55 am, none of the officials that would conduct the primary had arrived the venue.

JUST IN: NEC Reinstates Anyanwu As PDP National Secretary

The 100th National Executive Committee meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party has reinstated Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s national secretary.

Speaking to journalists after the NEC meeting held in Abuja on Monday, the PDP acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, announced that Anyanwu has been officially reinstated.

Damagum further revealed that the 101st NEC meeting has been scheduled for July 23 to finalise arrangements for the upcoming national convention.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, will hold its National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting on 24th July, 2025.

Deputy National Secretary, Barr. Festus Fuanter, disclosed this after Monday’s National Working Committee, NWC, meeting.

DAILY POST reports that Umar Ganduje on Friday resigned as the party’s chairman and in his place, Ali Dalori was appointed in acting capacity.

JUST IN: Dalori Chairs First APC NWC Meeting Following Ganduje’s Resignation

Following the resignation of former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Deputy Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, is now presiding over his first National Working Committee meeting in his capacity as Acting National Chairman.

Dalori, along with several NWC members, is currently meeting at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

The Monday meeting is expected to review recent developments within the party and formulate an official position.
