The Enugu State Police Command has narrated how a 200-level student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Emmanuel Gambo, allegedly killed a lady, Deborah Ememem, whom he had invited to a hotel following an argument over the payment of N15,000 after a sex romp.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Ndukwe, 22-year-old Deborah was discovered dead in the hotel room in the Nsuka area of the state, prompting an investigation into the cause of her death.

He said, “The Enugu State Police Command wishes to inform the public that following an intensive, diligent, and intelligence-led investigation, detectives have arrested the male suspect in the murder of one Deborah Sam-Praise Ememem (female, aged 22), who was recently found dead in a hotel room in Nsukka. Her iPhone, tablet, earbuds, and other personal belongings were also successfully recovered. The 22-year-old male suspect, Emmanuel Gambo, hails from Kogi State.

“Findings revealed that on June 14, 2025, at about 9:00 p.m., the suspect, a second-year student of Material and Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, checked into a hotel in Obukpa, Nsukka, with the deceased.

“In the early hours of June 15, 2025, a dispute ensued after a second round of intercourse, during which the deceased allegedly demanded an additional N15,000 from the suspect, on top of the N5,000 earlier paid.” The disagreement turned violent, and the suspect strangled her to death.”

He added that after the suspect had allegedly strangled the lady to death, he wrapped her in a cloth and kept her under the hotel bed.

Ndukwe added that the suspect, despite submitting a fake name and address, was, however, apprehended at his lodge in Nsukka with personal belongings of the deceased lady.

The suspect then wrapped the deceased’s body in a towel and a curtain torn from the hotel room and hid it under the bed. On June 16, 2025, at about 9:00 a.m., the hotel staff perceived a foul odour coming from the room.

He later led detectives to recover the deceased’s Redmi tablet and earbuds, which he had thrown out through the hotel window in a bag after committing the crime,” Ndukwe stated.

He stressed that the command would ensure justice is served on the matter, while urging parents and guardians to be watchful of their children and wards.
