INEC Gets 151 Party Registration Requests, Begins Screening

The Independent National Electoral Commission has received a total of 151 letters of intent from associations seeking registration as political parties, with eight new submissions recorded since late July.
The commission has begun shortlisting these associations to determine which meet the requirements to proceed to the next stage of application.
INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
“Since the 4th update released on 23rd July 2025, the commission has received eight more letters of intent from associations seeking registration as political parties. This brings the number received so far to 151.
“Details of the latest requests, indicating their proposed names, acronyms, logos, addresses and interim leadership of the associations, are uploaded to our website and other online platforms for public information.

“Meanwhile, having created the portal for party registration, the commission has commenced the shortlisting of the associations that meet the requirements to proceed to the application stage.
“Details will be released immediately after the 16 bye-elections in 12 states scheduled for Saturday, 16th August 2025,” Olumekun said.
In addition to party registration updates, INEC announced the resumption of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
The online pre-registration phase will begin on August 18, followed by in-person registration starting August 25.
Both processes will run simultaneously until August 30, 2026.

According to the statement, the registration will take place at 811 centres nationwide, including 774 Local Government offices and 37 State and Federal Capital Territory offices, operating from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding public holidays.
“As earlier announced by the commission, the CVR will resume on 18th August with the online pre-registration. The in-person registration option will follow a week later on 25th August 2025.
“Thereafter, the two processes will continue simultaneously for a year until 30th August 2026.
“The exercise will hold in 811 centres made up of our 774 Local Government, 37 State and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) offices nationwide from 9.00am to 3.00pm (Monday to Friday) every week with the exception of national public holidays.
“For easy identification, the Commission is deploying an online CVR Live Locator to assist citizens locate the registration centres nationwide. The locator will go live a day to the commencement of the CVR on 17th August 2025 and can be accessed at the following address https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/locator.”

The commission has also published a detailed 38-page document listing all registration centre addresses and provided dedicated telephone help lines for each state.
“Meanwhile, the Commission has today uploaded a 38-page document to our website and other official online platforms indicating the addresses of the 811 in-person registration centres nationwide.
“Similarly, dedicated telephone numbers have been given for each State of the Federation to serve as Help Desk for citizens who require further clarification.
“The procedure for both the online and in-person registrations remains the same as was the case in 2022. Detailed information on the process, including video clips, will once again be released by the commission next week,” the statement concluded.

Xenophobic Attacks: Nigerian Students To Picket MTN, MultiChoice, Other Businesses
The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS South-West Zone D, has announced plans to picket South African companies in Nigeria following the ongoing xenophobic attacks in the country.
DAILY POST reports that some Nigerians were recently killed in South Africa over the violent attacks.
A statement issued to newsmen by Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, Coordinator, NANS South-West, Zone D, said that the association is mobilizing to take decisive and lawful action by organizing peaceful picketing and mass advocacy against South African business interests operating in Nigeria.

“We categorically state that the continued targeting of Nigerians under any guise is unacceptable and must come to an immediate end.

“This contradiction will no longer be tolerated,” the statement said.

N5m, N10m Zero-interest Loans: SheVentures Opens Applications For Women Entrepreneurs
First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has opened a new round of applications for its SheVentures proposition, offering zero-interest loans of up to ₦10 million to women entrepreneurs to ease access to working capital and support business growth.
The facility provides loans ranging from ₦500,000 to ₦5 million under a general category, and ₦5 million to ₦10 million for sector-specific businesses, with funding capped at up to 50% of an applicant’s average monthly turnover.
At the centre of the offering is a 0% interest rate, with all charges embedded in a transparent structure.
Repayment is structured over four or six months, allowing businesses to match obligations with their cash flow cycles.

Yemisi Edun, Managing Director and Chief Executive of First City Monument Bank (FCMB), said the initiative reflects a deliberate approach to inclusive growth.
