Insecurity: Stakeholders Call For Collaborative Effort As Edo PCRC Holds Security Conference

The need for collaborative efforts in the fight against crimes and criminality took the centre at the 2024 Mega Security Conference of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Edo State Command.
The 2024 conference which was held between 23rd and 24th of October, 2024, at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOSPA), Benin City, was themed: Curving Emerging Crimes and Criminality in Edo State.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Ambassador Isaac Itseghosimhe, Chairman, PCRC, Edo State Command, said this year’s conference was aimed at bringing stakeholders together with the view to addressing the security challenges facing the country and in particular Edo State.
The Chairman, while stating that “the security challenges of the past and current ones call for an ‘all hands on deck’ approach,” noted that “the security of lives and property is critical to any state’s development.”

He called for collaborative efforts in the fight against crimes and criminality in the state, saying kidnapping, cultism and other vices are rising daily in the state.
He added: “At this crucial time, we must approach security with determination and collaboration. All stakeholders – citizens, law enforcement agencies, community, religious, and traditional leaders must work together to prevent and combat emerging and existing crimes.
“The responsibility of fighting crime lies with everyone – police, PCRC, security agents, and society. Together, we must deploy effective strategies and share information to create a safer environment for all.”
Corroborating the state command chairman’s stance, Ambassador, Kenneth Otuonunyo, National Vice Chairman, South-South of the PCRC said “we must join hands with other sister law enforcement agencies, community leaders, local vigilantes, youth, and every like-minded body with the aim of coming together to mitigate against crimes in the best economical way possible thereby safeguarding the well-being of our communities and by implication Edo State.”

“Let us make Edo State too hot for any criminal to pass through let alone reside. Let the mare mention of Edo State send quivers of fear into the criminal’s den, until such a time we have to keep doing our best to wade off these enemies of peace and progress.
On her part, Chairman, Local Organising Committee, Prophetess Courage Edobor-Eweka, while stating that this year’s theme was timely, noted that “as crime tactics evolve, so our strategies. From cybercrimes to youth-related offenses.”

The claimants are asking the court to declare that the caretaker committee (Igbafen-led faction), constituted on August 11, 2025, by the NLC national leadership, remains the only lawful authority to administer the affairs of the Edo State Council pending fresh elections.
They further seek a declaration that the continued occupation of the NLC secretariat located at No. 1 Teboga Road, Benin City, as well as the retention of union assets, financial records, and official instruments by the defendants, is illegal and void.
The suit also prays for an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from parading themselves as officials of the NLC Edo Council or interfering with the functions of the caretaker committee.
In addition, the claimants are seeking a mandatory order compelling the defendants to immediately hand over the secretariat, vehicles, financial documents, cheque books, and all other properties belonging to the union.

“We categorically state that the continued targeting of Nigerians under any guise is unacceptable and must come to an immediate end.
“This will include major corporations such as MTN Group and MultiChoice Group. It is morally indefensible for businesses to thrive in an environment where the lives of Nigerians are protected, while Nigerians are subjected to fear and violence elsewhere.
“This contradiction will no longer be tolerated,” the statement said.
