‘Journalists’ Arrested For Buying Rice With Fake Bank Transfer

The Kano State Police Command has arrested two men, parading themselves as journalists, for allegedly defrauding a rice trader of N33,000.

The 30-year-old suspects, Mujahid Kabir and Abba Imam, were alleged to have, on February 2, 2023, generated a fake bank transfer alert of N33,000 to buy a bag of rice at a Plaza at Sharada Quarters, Kano Municipal Local Government Area, Kano State

The state police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, said, “On 2nd February 2023 at about 1700hrs, a report was received from the Manager of a Plaza at Sharada Quarters, Kano Municipal LGA, Kano State that, two people went to their Plaza, purchased a bag of rice at N33,000 and generated a fake bank transfer alert to them.

“On receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command CP Mamman Dauda, psc(+) raised and instructed a team of detectives led by SP Abdulrahim Adamu, Divisional Police Officer, Sharada Division to arrest the culprits.

“The team immediately proceeded to the scene and arrested the two suspects while trying to escape, one Mujahid Kabir, “m”, 30 Years old, of Ahmadu Bello Way and Abba Imam, ‘m’, 30 years old, of Zoo Road Kano. On spot search, the suspects were found in possession of Vision FM Personnel Identity Cards.

“On preliminary investigation, the suspects confessed to having gone to Vision FM Radio station Kano, stole two personnel Identity Cards and made fake copies bearing their names and photographs. They further confessed to having gone to the said plaza at Sharada Quarters, bought a bag of rice and made a fake transaction with the cashier.

“The Commissioner of Police directed the case to be transferred to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for discreet investigation. Suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.”

The CP advised residents to be wary of fraudsters and scammers, secure their bank details and report suspicious transactions to their banks.

A man, Hassan, has dragged his wife, Zainab, before a Grade A Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking the dissolution of their nine-year-old wedlock on the account of infidelity by the latter, while also requesting for a DNA test to ascertain the paternity of the only child in their marriage.

Zainab agreed to divorce but maintained that Hassan is their child’s biological father.

Hassan, in his testimony, said, “Zainab and I started dating in 2017.

“We later cohabited, and I never asked her hand in marriage.

We ran our relationship this way for a few years, and I got fed up with it.

“I told her I was no longer interested in our relationship, and she accused me of using and dumping her.

“She insisted I must rent an apartment for her, set her up in a business, and rent a shop to carry out the business.

“I obliged her request and gave her N400, 000 to settle all that she demanded for.

“We parted ways as agreed, but she back not too long after this to inform me that she was pregnant with my child.

Although I was sceptical about her claim, I took her back.

“I have been responsible for our child’s upkeep till date, making feeding, clothing, her education and health care a priority.

“My lord, Zainab has extorted so much from me by the reason of her claim that the child is mine.

“I do not want to invest all my love and resources in her, only to find out later that she is not my child.

“I, therefore, pray this honourable court to honour my request of carrying out a DNA test in discerning the paternity of this child.”

The court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo, after she had heard the plaintiff, granted his request.

Akintayo ordered that both the plaintiff and defendant and also the child in question made themselves available on a date agreed by both parties, and the test carried out at the hospital specified by the court and the result handed over to the court.

Akintayo adjourned further hearing on the case until September 25.

‘He Married Me Cos’ Of My Property, Later Deserted Me Cos’ I’m Barren’

Grade A Customary Court, Court 2, sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has heard the evidence of a woman, Omolara, who brought a divorce suit against her husband, Olalekan, whom she alleged, showed her no care, attention and love because she is barren, but that he was after her property.

The plaintiff added that the defendant later deserted her 13 years ago and that she had not set eyes on him since then.

The defendant was absent in court despite being served court summonses.

Omolara in her evidence said, “My husband and I got married in 2009 in a church, but no marriage certificate was issued us by the church.

“He also did not fulfill the traditional requirement of paying my bride price.

“My husband became uncaring, unloving and hostile as the years went by in our marriage because I failed to bear him a child.

“He treated me like a piece of furniture in the home. We hardly discussed or shared views while he kept his activities away from me.

“He started abusing me verbally, leaving me emotionally and psychologically unstable.

“My husband rather than giving me his support in all efforts I made in putting an end to our childless state neglected me.

“He rejected all my efforts to bring the spark back in our relationship.

“He also frustrated every step my family members took at restoring peace in our home.

“It gradually became clear to me that my husband pretended to love me while we were dating because he wanted to take possession of the property I acquired before we met.

“His family members gave me no respite. They were also hash and unkind towards me.

“They tried all they could to bring an end to our relationship.

“I travelled out of town for a course which held for a few weeks but met an empty home on my return.

“My husband deserted our home and left the keys to our apartment with my friend.

“I came to court today, because I want to move on with my life.

“I, therefore, earnestly plead with this honourable court to release me from the bondage I am presently in called marriage.

“I plead for divorce.”

The court president, Mrs O.E Owoseni, adjourned the case for judgment.

Truck Crushes Man Rushing For Jumu’ah Prayers In Rivers

A trailer loaded with goods has crushed a Muslim faithful rushing for Friday prayers to death in Port Harcourt.

According to Vanguard, the tragic incident happened on the ever-busy Nkpolu junction axis of the East-West road, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, around 2:05 pm.

It was gathered that the victim was crossing the busy road when a black SUV on speed knocked him down and that the truck, which was on high speed, crushed him to death.

A source, who witnessed the incident, narrated that the young man was behind some of his Muslim brothers, who were also going for the Friday prayers, when the incident happened.

The source, who gave his name simply as Tunde, said the other worshipers had crossed, but that the victim, who did not observe the traffic very well before entering the road, was knocked down by the vehicle.

The source said that when the SUV brought him down, a trailer that was on the speed lane ran over him, dismembering the body beyond recognition.

However, the Muslim faithful who were with him took over the highway in protest until police operatives arrived at the scene.

Meanwhile, the police restored normalcy while the protesting Muslims took the remains for burial.
