Junior Pope: ‘Our Boat Captain Hit Fisherman’s Canoe’ – Survived Actor Narrates How It Happened [VIDEO]

Nollywood actor, TC Okafor, who survived the boat accident that claimed the lives of Junior Pope and four others has come out to speak on how the accident happened.

In an IG live recorded today April 11, TC said late Jnr Pope was filming himself on the boat while they were riding to the movie location when the boat captain got distracted and in his bid to enter the video Jnr Pope was recording, looked away and collided with a fisherman’s boat.

He said their boat capsized and that the only saving grace for him was that he was holding on to the anchor rope of the boat.

He said while on the boat, it was only the Director and the Director of Photography (DOP) that had life jackets on.

He narrated: ‘’Since we started this job, I have always sat in front of the boat because I have seen where a a boat capsize. I always like to hold the rope on the boat.

“They were making a video and I advised everyone to put their phones in their pocket.

“The DOP was wearing a jacket and the director was wearing a life jacket, Only two of them wore life jacket.

“Before we entered the boat, I took the Fanta I bought and poured into the boat.

“Junior Pope asked me what I was doing and I told him I was observing ‘water people’ and that I do not like to pass without sharing something.

“I just gave them Fanta. I don’t want any bad thing to happen to me. I don’t like water. He said it’s true.

“As we were sailing, Junior Pope started making videos. The boat captain was wearing an earpiece.

“He was focusing his head for it to be in the video Junior Pope was making. I was in the front. I saw the boat of some fishermen and I alerted him ‘see canoe!’. He had no experience.

“The first thing that happened was that he hit the last point of the canoe and that was how the boat ‘summersaulted’. Because I was holding the rope that helps to anchor a boat, that was what helped me and one other girl. That was it.”

He said it was a stationed boat around the river that came in to rescue him and the other survivors.

Okafor said after the accident, the movie producer, Adanma Luke, tried to get him arrested claiming that the boat captain said that he caused the accident by obstructing his vision.

‘’I was the one that first reported the matter at the Marine police station. They told us that why do we film makers keep doing this. They said they have always told us to come and rent a jacket before entering the water but that because of our stinginess, we never come to even take them and some divers.”

Twelve persons were in the ill-fated boat. Seven were rescued alive, two bodies were recovered while three bodies are yet to be recovered.

Popular social media critic and influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has reacted angrily to the trending AI-generated video allegedly linked to him, blasting presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga and accusing the government of ignoring worsening insecurity.

Recall that the comment comes amid a vow by the Presidency on Wednesday to prosecute Nigerian social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VDM, for allegedly sharing a fake audio clip of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

An X user, @Pious_minister, shared a post alleging that an AI-generated audio of the President was used in one of VDM’s videos.

In the viral audio, a voice mimicking Tinubu allegedly claimed that insecurity in Nigeria would continue because Nigerians did not vote for him during the 2023 presidential election.

Reacting to this via a video posted on his social media page, VeryDarkMan described Onanuga as “stupid” and “daft,” insisting he would not defend the controversial AI clip.

The activist questioned why the Presidency had remained silent over the recent abduction of teachers and students in Oyo State, alleging that one of the kidnapped teachers had been beheaded while the victims remain in captivity on Children’s Day.

“President spokesman Bayo, you are a very stupid old man. I’m not trying to insult you, but look at the meaning of stupid. That’s what you represent. That is who you are.

“I swear to God, you are so daft, and this is the reason why I said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should not come back in 2027 because all the people that operate under him don’t use their brains.

“You are so stupid. I know say una don get me for mind and think say part of an agenda. You see this audio, I will not defend it. You no dey shame.

“Now you can talk. Bandits went into a school in Oyo State, they carried three teachers, one man, two women, they carried students. One of the teachers was backing an infant child. Few days later, there was a report that one of the teachers was beheaded. Bayo Onanuga, where is your comment on that?

“As I speak to you today, it is Children’s Day. Those children are still in an unknown location. I want to see wetin una wan do. It’s only stupid people that will believe that video.”

Alexx Ekubo’s family has officially announced the funeral arrangements for the late actor, describing him as a man whose life was filled with love, faith, generosity and compassion.

DAILY POST had earlier reported that the Nollywood actor passed away after suffering from kidney cancer.

The Ekubo-Okwaraeke family announced the funeral arrangements in a statement released via the actor’s social media handle.

Instagram Takes Down Phyna Account Amid Fight With VeryDarkMan

Former Big Brother Naija reality show winner, Phyna, has lost her Instagram page.

Phyna’s Instagram page was suspended on Monday amid her ongoing feud with social media critic and influencer, VeryDarkMan.

DAILY POST reports that Phyna had accused VeryDarkMan of manipulating the public against her after she turned down his sexual request.

Denying the allegation, VeryDarkMan said it is normal to seek a fellow adult’s consent for sex and demanded proof.

Backing up her claim, the reality star shared her alleged chats with VeryDarkMan on her Instagram page.

A few hours after the post, Instagram suspended her account. The development sparked mixed reactions online, with many accusing her of deactivating her account.

Reacting to the incident, Phyna, in a post on X, noted that her Instagram was suspended.

“I didn’t deactivate my IG. Deactivate say wetin happen na? It got suspended,” she wrote.
