JUST IN: A’Ibom Women Protest Amended Traditional Rulers Law

Women of Akwa Ibom State on Tuesday protested against the Traditional Rulers Law recently passed by the State House of Assembly and assented to by governor Umo Eno.

The protesting women numbering over 300 were drawn from Annang, Oro and Obolo ethnic groups in the state .

They protested to the State House of Assembly condemning the amended Law.

Kwara Vigilante Men Arrested By Soldiers In Edo State Released

Six Kwara State vigilante men arrested by the Nigerian Army on December 31,2025, along Auchi-Ikpeshi highway in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, have been released after a thorough investigation by the authorities.

Spokesperson of the state police command, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, confirmed the development in a statement in Ilorin on Tuesday.

The statement read in part; “The Kwara State Police Command wishes to confirm that on Wednesday, 31st December, 2025, it received six vigilante members who were earlier arrested by personnel of the Nigerian Army along the Auchi–Ikpeshi Road in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.

The Vigilantes, travelling in a vehicle belonging to Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, were formally handed over to the Kwara State Police Command by the Brigade Commander, 22 Armoured Brigade, Sobi Barracks, Ilorin, Brigadier General N.N. Rume, for the purpose of investigation and profiling.

“Following a thorough investigation, it was established that the individuals are legitimate members of a vigilante group operating in collaboration with recognised security agencies in the ongoing efforts to combat banditry and other forms of criminality.

Consequently, having been exonerated of any criminal wrongdoing, the vigilante members were released to their respective leaders,” the statement added.

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, reiterated the command’s commitment to synergy among security agencies and community-based security outfits, while urging all groups to continually operate within the confines of the law.

He assured members of the public that the command remains steadfast in its resolve to ensure the safety and security of all residents of the state.

Police Detain Officers Over Alleged N3.3m Extortion From Lagos Couple

Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that it has identified and detained officers accused of extorting N3.3 million from a couple in the state.

The command disclosed on Monday that the officers were traced following allegations that surfaced on social media.

According to reports, the officers, attached to Area H Command in Ogudu, allegedly arrested a couple unlawfully on December 18, 2025, and coerced them into paying $2,000.

It was further alleged that after the incident drew public attention on X, N2.2 million was refunded to the victims, while the officers reportedly pleaded to retain about N1.1 million, claiming the sum had already been shared among several personnel.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the officers involved had been taken into custody and transferred to the command headquarters for a thorough investigation.

She disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration to supervise the inquiry.

According to the command, the affected officers have since made statements as part of the ongoing investigation, while efforts are underway to have the complainant formally present his account to aid the probe.

Army Rescue Retired Colonel From Kidnappers In Plateau

A retired senior military officer, Colonel Ajanaku (rtd), has been rescued from kidnappers by troops of the 3rd Division of the Nigerian Army and Operation Enduring Peace.

The rescue happened around the Rafiki axis located in Bassa local government area of Plateau state.
Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 3rd Division, Nigerian Army, confirmed the rescue of the retired senior military officer.

According to him, “I can confirm that the senior officer was rescued by our troops in the early hours of the evening. He’s currently taken to our medical facility for a medical check-up.”

Ajanaku was abducted by gunmen in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State at about 12:45 am on Monday from his house opposite the Salvation Army Church, along Rukuba Road.
