A Dadakuada music legend from Ilorin, Kwara state capital, Alhaji Aminullahi Jaigbade Alao, has been reportedly dead.

The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the late music maestro died on Monday after a brief illness at the ripe age of 121.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara, in a condolence message, by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Rafiu Ajakaye, commiserated with the family of the late music legend Alhaji Jaigbade Alao, praying Allah to grant him al-Jannah Firdaus and comfort the family.

“On behalf of the government and people of Kwara State, I send our condolences to the family of Alhaji Jaigbade Alao and all lovers of his inimitable Dadakuada music worldwide. Alhaji Jaigbade was a legend whose mastery of his genre of music projected the state positively,” according to the statement.

“He was also a community leader in his own right. His death has created a void in the chain of great mentors for younger ones who took to his genre of dadakuada music. We beseech Allah to forgive him and grant him Al-jannah Firdaus.”

The Dadakuada crooner was among the statesmen that the Kwara state government recently honoured in the maiden edition of its lifetime achievement awards dedicated to different personalities who served or contributed to the development of the state or the country at various levels/sectors.

Also in its reaction by the director, University Relations of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Saeedat Aliyu, said that the university community received the news of the passing of Alhaji King Aminullahi Jaigbade Alao with sorrow.

The University don described Alhaji Jaiyegbade Alao as an insightful, politically aware, internationally renowned artist who would be thoroughly missed for a repertoire of historical facts and for his ingenious compositions.

He was turbaned in 1991 as the King of Songs (Oba Olorin) by the late Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Zulu Karnaini Gambari, and received an honorary doctorate degree in Music from Kwara State University in 2018.

The Acting Vice Chancellor, who prayed for the repose of the soul of the late Dadakuada maestro also asked that Allah give the family, friends and fans of Alhaji Jaiyegbade Alao the fortitude to bear the loss.

The sleepy town of Uwala Abaka, Ukehe, in Nsukka, Igboetiti Local Government Area of Enugu State, was enveloped by sadness and grief, as the remains of one of their illustrious sons, actor John Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope was laid to rest.

The burial rites commenced at 10 am with a commendation mass at St. Peter’s Catholic Parish, Ukehe, and lying-in-state at his father’s compound, where family members, well-wishers, colleagues and friends had the final glimpse of the late actor before the body was moved to a private venue for internment at about 1.30 pm.

The atmosphere at the burial ceremony was somber as colleagues and fans gathered to pay their final respects to the late actor.

The 43-year-old actor died alongside four other people on April 10, after their boat capsized in the Anam River, in Anambra State, while returning from a movie shoot.

Street-pop artiste, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has released a new song following his recent arrest by the Lagos State Police Command for failing to settle a debt related to the purchase of a G-Wagon.

It was gathered that Portable had paid only N13 million after purchasing the vehicle, which was worth N27 million. He was said to have refused to pay the N14 million balance.

The song, produced by 2tuponthebeat, hints at the singer’s agility and ability to “fly” over obstacles, referencing how he evaded arrest by jumping over a gate.

Recall that Portable released the track ‘I’m Not A Prisoner’ following his arrest in 2023 after failing to honour several police invitations.

Portable don drop new song called Spiderman. He even used the voice over from his arrest video as the intro. You can’t shame the shameless.

If all artists turned their experiences into songs like Portable does, they won’t struggle with their catalogue.

It’s a bad thing to owe, evade arrest and to be an “Onigbese”.But Portable knows how to flip the narrative in his favour.

He understands that attention is the currency of marketing.#portable#spiderman

In this era, it’s never about how good or talented you are anymore; it’s more about how long you can hold people’s attention. Interestingly, Portable has been able to do that consistently since he got his break in 2021 and has chosen not to leave the limelight anytime soon.
