JUST IN: Tragedy, Ibadan Poly Female Student Hacked To Death; Eyes Plucked Out

Tragedy struck yesterday at Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa where the lifeless body of a National Diploma (ND) 2 Mass Communication student was found dead in her room with matchet cuts and her eyes plucked out.

The student, simply identified as Dasola was among those writing the ongoing first-semester examination in the school.

As of the time of filing this report, the circumstances surrounding her murder are still not known.

Vanguard gathered that late Dasola’s friend, her coursemate, who did not see her around to sit for the examination on Thursday, went to her house, around the Ile Idibo area and found her door locked from outside suggesting that no one was inside the room.

It was learnt that some of her neighbours who were her mates were perceiving a terrible odour and decided to look around and while peeping through her window, they found her body lying lifeless.

They reportedly raised an alarm which attracted attention from those around.

It was gathered that the school’s management had been alerted and hurriedly suspended the ongoing examination for a day as a sign of respect for the deceased’s soul.

However, the Eruwa Police Division has been informed and arranged for the evacuation of the corpse from the room to be deposited at the General Hospital, Eruwa, while police commenced an investigation to fish out her killers.

Meet Professor Who Sells Vegetables

Professor Nasir Hassan-Wagini of Biology Department, Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina, who produces and sells vegetables, has advised students and youths to key into small businesses rather than wait for white-collar jobs.

Hassan-Wagini advised on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria at a weekly market in Batsari, Katsina state, where he sells the produce.

The professor said he was born by a farmer, grew up as a farmer, and went into produce businesses at an early stage of life.

He said that his story became popular after he was promoted to the rank of professor.

“My call to the NCE, Diploma, and degree graduates is that they should feel free and start small businesses in their communities instead of staying idle.

“I’m a professor of plant resources at UMYU, I want youths and students to look at me, know my rank and position, and I still engage in small business of this nature.

“That may clear their minds because they feel shame and are too big to go into such small types of businesses.

“So, stop staying at home doing nothing when you did not get a job, start with small businesses like this one.

One of his neighbours in the market, Malam Uzairu, said that they enjoy staying with the professor in the market.

He described the professor as trustworthy, humble, and kind in his interaction with people.

We respect him and he respects us. In fact, he is a nice person who knows how to relate to all categories of people,” Uzairu said.

Teachers’ Strike: VeryDarkMan Takes Protest To Wike’s Doorstep, Teaches Kids

Controversial social media critic and influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan has staged a protest at the FCT Minister’s gate in Abuja.

The PUNCH reports that primary school teachers in the FCT, have been on strike since the 24th of March, 2025, now for more than 90 days, over the failure of the Area Council Chairmen to implement the new national minimum wage of N70,000.

VDM on Monday, gathered schoolchildren dressed in uniform, and organised class where he taught the children letters of the alphabet.

“S for Suegbe, T for Tinubu, W for Wike”, VDM called out, while the children repeated.

VeryDarkMan however refused to speak to our correspondent, when approached.

He insisted that the Minister’s gate would form the new classroom for the children.

Idahosa Optimistic Shaibu Will Perform As National Sports Institute DG

The Edo State deputy governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, has expressed optimism that his predecessor in office, Hon. Philip Shaibu will excel in his new role as Director General of the National Institute for Sports (NIS).

The deputy governor expressed his optimism during the Thanksgiving Mass to celebrate the appointment at St. Paul Catholic Church in Benin on Sunday.

Idahosa, who appreciated President Bola Tinubu for the appointment, said Shaibu will bring to bear on the new job his experience as an astute sports administrator.

He assured the state of his readiness to effectively be a good ambassador effectively by working to reposition of the NIS in line with the renwew hope agenda of the President.
