Lagos Community Residents Uncover Scrap Yard Where Live Cartridges Are Stored [PHOTOS]

Residents of Unity Estate, Poro-Imope, Idiroko, along Itamaga-Ijede Road, Ikorodu, on Saturday, uncovered a scrap yard where live cartridges were reportedly stored in the area.

Two commercial vehicles, some dismantled motorcycles and personal effects were also intercepted at the yard said to be managed by a group of non-Yoruba men.

Eye witnesses’ account said the discovery took place at about 12.30pm when one of the residents who was passing by noticed a suspicious move by the group and thereafter raised the alarm that attracted other residents.

One of the residents, Mr Alao Kehinde who alerted Vanguard about the discovery said apart from the suspicious move, he noticed the men loading the items in two vehicles with the motive of moving to an undisclosed destination.

Immediately, the resident was said to have quickly alerted his neighbours before the vehicles took off.

Fortunately, some members of Oodua Peoples’ Congress, OPC and Ikorodu Peace Initiative were said to have rushed to the scene and three suspects were apprehended in the process.

According to Also, “the scrap yard has been operating in the area before now but nobody suspected that they could be dealing in cartridges until we witnessed what transpired today,”

It was learnt that the three suspects were handed over to men of Igbogbo Division for interrogation while the cartridges, vehicles and other items were recovered from the scene.

Speaking with Vanguard, Rasheed Fatuga, the Founder, Ikorodu Ambassadors Group who was among the first responders at the scene said, “I escorted the suspects to the Police station, I rode with the Ikorodu Peace Initiative in their car.

“Residents of the community uncovered the yard and raised the alarm that attracted law enforcement operatives.”

Confirming the discovery in a statement, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, Spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, said, “Operatives of Ikorodu Division of the Lagos State Police Command have intercepted two commercial buses loaded with large quantity of live cartridges, three dismantled motorcycles and some personal effects at Poromope Estate, Ijede Road, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects, Tukur Abdullah ‘m’ aged 35, Muazu Telim ‘m’ aged 50 and Dahiru Idris ‘m’ aged 36 were on their way to Katsina State.

“The suspects, recovered exhibits as well as the vehicles, with registration numbers KMC 438 YK and KMC 394 XF have been transferred to the Lagos State Command Headquarters, Ikeja for further investigations. “

Scores Killed As Angry Soldiers Raze Houses In Bayelsa Over Delta Community Massacre

Troops of the Nigerian Army have stormed Igbomotoru community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, razing houses and allegedly killing about 11 people.

The action is sequel to last week’s killing of 16 soldiers and officers at Okuama Community in Delta State.

Soldiers in five gunboats reportedly invaded the community, razing houses suspected to be the hideout of a militant leader said to be involved in the killing of the military men who were on a rescue mission in Delta.

Recall that an Army Commander, two majors, one captain and 12 soldiers of 181 Amphibious Battalion in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta were killed in Okuama community.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, had ordered an immediate investigation and arrest of the culprits.

Days after the order, it was gathered that some residents of Okuama community fled to neighboring Ughelli for fear of reprisal by soldiers.

The soldiers had during the weekend burnt several houses in Okuama, before storming neighboring communities in Bayelsa in pursuit of those involved in the killing.

According to Daily Trust, a source said immediately the troops stormed the Bayelsa community, they opened fire on some residents relaxing at the jetty before proceeding to set ablaze three buildings suspected to be the hideout of the said militant leader.

He said the community had been able to recover 11 corpses from the attack, while still searching for others as at the time of filing this report.

“The military invasion has affected the people gravely. Lives have been lost, properties have been destroyed. Even after the attack, I am sure that life in the community will never be the same.

“This weekend was scheduled for the burial of one of my late uncles. We had paid for food, drinks, music, speedboat and canopies. And now because of this, the burial can no longer hold.

“In fact some of the people we paid money to are saying that if the date changes, we would have to pay extra money. Is that not a huge loss on its own? So we would have to start looking for more money, that is if there will ever be peace in the community.

“I am appealing to the Federal and State Government to as a matter of urgency intervene in this matter. We do not have a hand in whatever transpired in Delta State. The international community should come to our aid,” the source said.

When contacted via telephone call, the spokesman for Operation Delta Safe, OPDS headquarters, Major Adenegan Ojo, hung up the call after hearing it was a journalist who called.

Again, Terrorists Storm Kaduna In Fresh Attack, Abduct 87

Terrorists abducted no fewer than 87 women, children, and others in a fresh attack on the Kajuru Station community in Kaduna State on Sunday night.

The community has been thrown into confusion and fear. Some residents were seen today, Monday, relocating due to fear of further attacks.

Kajuru has suffered several attacks in recent times, and some locals are still in captivity.

Speaking to journalists, an official of the Kaduna Kajuru-Station Youths, Harisu Dari, said the terrorists attacked at about 10 p.m. on Sunday.

He said they broke into some shops to steal food and other provisions.

According to Dari, “Two days ago, 15 women and a man were abducted in the Dogon-Noma community of Kajuru.

“For now, there is no contact yet with the 87 persons abducted on Sunday night.

“As of the time I visited the community this morning, security operatives have not been drafted to help restore the confidence of the villagers.

“The villagers are traumatised by the sad development. The government needs to re-strategise in tackling these terrorists,” Dari said.

Kaduna attacks

Kaduna has become a huge scene of kidnappings of recent.

On Thursday, March 7, the bandits invaded LEA Primary School, Kuriga, in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The terrorists shot one of the pupils and escaped into the bush with over 200 others. Among the victims were some secondary school students, and staff members.

Kidnappers of the Kaduna schoolchildren later contacted a spokesman for the families of the hostages. They demanded N1 billion for the students’ release.

Meanwhile, last Friday, Kaduna Police Command claimed it arrested a 35-year-old man (name withheld), over alleged kidnapping in the state.

The Police also said they recovered arms and ammunition in a raid conducted at the suspects’ residence of the suspect.

What they recovered, Police said, were a fabricated cartridge revolver rifle, a fabricated pistol, two Dane guns, six live cartridges, one discharge GPRG ammunition, seven discharge cartridges, and a blood-stained cutlass.

Army Recovers Mutilated Corpses Of Officers In Delta

Alleged Mutilated bodies of the Commanding officer , Majors and some of the soldiers have been found floating in the river in Okuoma community in Ughelli south local government area.

Community sources told Vanguard that the bowels of some of the officers were ripped open by their killers.

It was speculated that the military would have moved the corpses out of the town to the morgue.

“The military men on ground would have moved the corpses to their morgue either in Bayelsa or Warri.”

The killing of 16 soldiers in the community last week had continued to generate tension across Ughelli and other parts of the state.

According to VANGUARD, the military moved in heavy artillery weapons into the community through Bomadi local government area on Sunday and they also mounted heavy presence in every area.

The number of buildings so far razed down could not be confirmed but some locals told the Vanguard that several houses had been burnt.

”Our properties have been burnt down. Painfully, occupants of these houses have no hand in the killings.

“We appeal to the military to do thorough intelligence gathering so they can fish out those involved.

“Leveling the entire community is not the best option after all. The community is not at war with the federal government “.

Some persons who spoke to the government under condition of anonymity wondered why the soldiers did not invite those they allegedly came to see in the community to their base for the peace talk rather than come to the community in such numbers.

”I have been following all the stories in the media. Well ! They knew why they chose that approach. “
