Lagos: PDP’s Jandor Files Petition Against Sanwo-Olu’s Victory

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the just concluded governorship election in Lagos, popularly known as Abdul-Azeez Adediran has filed a petition before the governorship election tribunal of Lagos.

His petition challenges the result of the election held on March 18.

Jandor further called for the disqualification of the candidates of the All Progressives Congress and the Labour Party, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour for “non-compliance” with the Electoral Act 2022 and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

In the petition marked EPT/LAG/GOV/01/2023 dated April 7, the PDP and Jandor noted that APC failed to comply with the INEC timetable.

The respondents of the petition include INEC (1st respondent), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (2nd respondent); Obafemi Hamzat Lagos-elect deputy governorship candidate (3rd respondent); APC (4th respondent); Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (5th respondent); and the LP (6th respondent).

Jandor added that Sanwo-Olu, his deputy Hamzat, and Rhodes-Vivour were not suitable to contest the poll.

“The 2nd and 3rd respondents, although not duly sponsored and not qualified, contested along with the 1st petitioner and others for the office of governor of Lagos state, the subject matter of this petition.

“Similarly, the 5th and 6th respondents, although not duly sponsored and not qualified, contested along with the 1st petitioner and others for the office of governor of Lagos state, the subject matter of this petition.

“The 1st respondent, upon the conclusion of the election, declared the 2nd respondent who was not properly sponsored by the 4th respondent as the winner of the election to the office of governor of Lagos state.

“The 5th respondent who was similarly not properly sponsored by the 6th respondent was declared by the 1st respondent as having scored the second highest number of votes at the election to the office of governor of Lagos state,” the petition reads.

The 100th National Executive Committee meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party has reinstated Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s national secretary.

Speaking to journalists after the NEC meeting held in Abuja on Monday, the PDP acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, announced that Anyanwu has been officially reinstated.

JUST IN: Dalori Chairs First APC NWC Meeting Following Ganduje’s Resignation

Following the resignation of former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Deputy Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, is now presiding over his first National Working Committee meeting in his capacity as Acting National Chairman.

Dalori, along with several NWC members, is currently meeting at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

The Monday meeting is expected to review recent developments within the party and formulate an official position.
