Lagos To Divert Traffic For APC Council Primaries Saturday

The Lagos State Government has issued a traffic advisory ahead of Saturday’s All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries for the local council elections in the state.

The state’s Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.

According to Osiyemi, motorists will not be able to access ACME Road from the Adeniyi Jones, Lateef Jakande and ACME Crescent ends during the period.

He said, “The entire stretch of ACME Road will be closed to vehicular movement during the primaries.

“Consequently, motorists are to use the following alternative routes: those coming from Adeniyi Jones are to link Aromire to access Allen Junction and continue their journeys.

“Similarly, motorists coming from Allen are advised to use Aromire to link Ladipo Oluwole and access Guinness to reach their intended destinations.

“Motorists coming from Akilo Road will also be able to connect Wemco Road, link Lateef Jakande, or continue onto Omole to complete their journeys.”

He urged members of the public to plan their movements ahead of Saturday.

“If you do not have any urgent or necessary business around the ACME Road axis, please consider avoiding the area to ease movement and reduce congestion.

“Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be on the ground to manage vehicular movement along the affected corridors,” the commissioner added.

Court Jails 10 For Raping Disabled Teen

A Kaduna court has ordered ten men to remain in jail while they face trial for repeatedly raping a 16-year-old disabled girl.

The attacks left the teenager pregnant, and she gave birth to a baby boy four months ago.

The crimes happened in Likoro village, Kudan local area. Police say an 11th suspect is still missing.

The girl’s brother reported the rapes last October when he noticed her pregnancy. When asked, she told how different men tricked her into going with them at various times.

Judge Abubakar Lamido said the men must stay in prison until the case moves to a higher court. The next hearing is set for May 22, 2025.

Kaduna’s Commissioner for Human Services, Hajiya Rabi Salisu, called the case “heartbreaking.” She said the girl was only 14 when the rapes started and is now struggling to care for her baby. The victim’s parents are blind, and she has vision problems too.

Salisu blamed a former police officer for improperly letting some suspects go free earlier. She promised the government would help the young mother and her child.

Kaduna state has strict laws against harming women and children. Officials warned they will punish anyone who abuses disabled people.

Police were still searching for the one suspect who escaped.

The case has shocked many in Nigeria, where violence against women and disabled people remains a serious problem. Activists say more needs to be done to protect vulnerable groups.

Alleged Fraud: Fake Prophetess Lands In Court

The Nigeria Police on Thursday arraigned a suspected fake prophetess, Iyabo Komolafe, 43, before a Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, over alleged fraudulent activities.

The prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Ayeni, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec. 12, Feb.15 2024 and April, 2025 respectively at Mokola Roundabout area, Ibadan.

Ayeni stated that Komolafe and others now at large, had at different times, presented themselves as prophetess to one Waliyat Shakiru and Olawuni Akinola for the purpose of obtaining money while making false spiritual prophecies.

He further claimed that the defendant obtained cash of N300,000, a small phone worth N13,000, a bag containing cash of N1,500, three electrical extension boxes valued at N15,000, an iphone 12 worth N365,000 and a phone charger, valued at N7,000.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 516, 419 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 38 vol. ii law of Oyo State, 2000.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the six-count charge of conspiracy, false pretense and stealing preferred against her.

The Court’s President, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, after listening to the charge, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N400,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She said the sureties must be relatives of the defendant and must provide a valid identity card.

Akintayo added that each of the sureties must present evidence of tax payment to the Oyo State Government.

She adjourned the suit until June 3, for trial.

Police Bust Inter-state Car Theft Syndicate In Ondo

Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have apprehended a suspected car theft syndicate operating within Ondo and other neighbouring states.

In an operation led by the Tactical Intelligence Squad, TIS, of the command, four suspects were arrested, and three stolen vehicles also recovered.

One of the culprits, Afolabi Emmanuel, reportedly stole a 2016 model Toyota Camry from the residence of one Amokun Victor in Oka-Akoko.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Afolabi said the stolen vehicle worth over N12 million was sold to one of the accomplices in Ogori-Magongo, Kogi State for N700,000.

Afolabi said, “The suspect confessed to scaling the fence of the victim’s compound, breaking into the apartment, carting away valuables and eventually driving off with the vehicle. Further investigations led to the recovery of two more vehicles, including a Toyota Sienna worth N6 million, which had been sold for N4 million.”

The police CP further disclosed that the gang was responsible for a string of vehicle thefts across the state, stating that the ringleader is based in Lagos but frequently visited Akungba-Akoko, where his father resides.

His said, “It was during these visits that he would identify potential targets before launching the theft operations. These suspects have been a menace, instilling fear in residents and dispossessing them of their hard-earned belongings. Their arrest is a significant blow to the network of criminals operating across state lines.”

Reiterating the command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property in Ondo State, Afolabi said “Our goal is to ensure that citizens can sleep soundly at night without fear.”
