Lockdown: 4 Die, 10 Injure As JTF, Youth Clash In Kaduna

A clash between operatives of Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) and some youth in Tirkania community, a suburb of Kaduna over enforcement of the stay at home order of the state government has claimed four lives, leaving many injured.

It was gathered that the JTF officials Monday tried enforcing the lockdown order at a local market in the area when the fight occurred.

A source, Alhaji Nuhu Mohammed Marafan Nasarawa, disclosed that “the crisis started between the youth and JTF before the police came in trying to enforce the stay-at-home order.”

The source added that they thought things were over when the JTF officials left the scene, only for them to return and accompanied by the police.

“The Policemen from Kakuri dispersed the aggrieved youth with teargas. Later, we heard shots, live bullets as some youth threw stones at the police.

“Yes, four of our boys were killed and we have buried them. We have 10 others who sustained gunshots injuries, seven are in critical condition as we speak. I called on the Army and other community leaders to calm the angry youth, who had vowed to take revenge against the police,” he said.

“Among the dead is a 30-year-old Musa Aliyu, who was killed after rushing out of the bathroom to see what was happening outside .”

Ali Balteh, the father of the slain Musa Aliyu, who resides at Dogaje Street Tirkania, said that his late son was having his bath when some youth jumped inside their compound.

“Musa rushed out of the bathroom when he saw youth jumping into our compound. So, he went straight to the gate to see who was chasing them that was how police shot him on the left hand and the bullet penetrated into his chest,” he said.

According to VANGUARD, he was taken to a private hospital where he was confirmed dead together with the others.

The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, said the command will issue an official statement after hearing from the Divisional Police Officer in the area.

Dark Sunday In Niger As Tanker Explosion Claims 30 Lives, Kills 50 Cows

A tanker explosion in the Agaie Local Government Area of Niger State has resulted in the deaths of over 30 people and the burning of 50 cattle.

The explosion took place around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday along the Lapai-Agaie road, approximately 2 kilometers from the Dendo community in Agaie.

It was learnt that the incident occurred when a petrol tanker loaded with PMS collided with a trailer truck loaded with travellers and cattle from Wudil in Kano state heading to Lagos.

Two other vehicles, a crane truck and a pickup van traveling on the road were also caught when the PMS loaded tanker exploded.

The Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Alhaji Abdullahi Baba Arah, confirmed the incident, adding that the NSEMA Rapid Response Team responded to the call after the explosion, adding that 30 bodies had been recovered from the truck and confirmed dead.

Arah said that his team were still at the scene of the incident and was still conducting search and response operations as there were more bodies trapped inside the trucks.

One Dead As Oil Tanker Ram Into 10 Vehicles In Lagos

One person has been confirmed dead in an accident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday at Maryland, Lagos State.

According to eyewitness reports, the fatal accident involved a fuel tanker that ran over 10 vehicles, leaving one person dead opposite Kresta Laurel Plaza, Maryland.

We gathered that the driver of the tanker was drunk and at high speed.

“He was unaware of the fact that he had rammed into the vehicles. The person who died was avoiding being hit by the tanker. He jumped out of his vehicle. Unfortunately, the tanker ran over him, smashing his head to the ground,” an eyewitness told Channels Television.

As of the time of filing this report, the Police had arrived at the scene.

Gunmen Abduct Babcock Teaching Hospital Staff In Ogun

The Ogun  State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of a senior nursing officer at the Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilishan Remo, Ikenne Local government area in Ogun State, by suspected kidnappers.

The  66-years old woman identified as Elizabeth Uruakpa, who is an Assistant Chief Nursing Officer with Babcock University Teaching Hospital, was abducted by gunmen in the Ilisan Remo area of Ogun State on Thursday.

Uruakpa, was said to be coming back from church service when the gunmen blocked her Honda CRV with their unregistered Red Toyota Camry and zoomed off with her.

A resident in the area who spoke on Friday, said: “The woman was coming back from the church in the evening around 7:00 pm when the gunmen abducted her. I know her very well, she’s a senior nursing staff with Babcock University Teaching Hospital and she is a member of Winners’ Chapel.

The police public relations officer Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident to Channels TV.

“A distress call was received from Ilishan near the new market at about 1710hrs that one Elizabeth Uruakpa was abducted by young armed men who blocked her Honda CRV with their unregistered Red Toyota Camry, and zoomed off with her,” she said.

She said efforts are being intensified by the anti-kidnapping unit of the command to ensure she is released unhurt.

“We have mobilised into the bush and the Officer in Charge of Anti Kidnapping has been contacted for possible clue and movement”
