Chief Magistrate Patricia Igho-Braimah of Oredo Court, Benin, remanded a 39-year-old man, Monday Igielugbo, in Oko Correctional Centre for for allegedly assaulting and putting hand into a 17-year-Old girl’s vaginal.
The Prosecutor, ASP Osayomwanbor Omoruyi, told the Court that the accused person committed the offence on January 28 and 29, at WAEC Road, Aduwawa in Oregbeni Magisterial District, Triable in Evboriaria.
Omoruyi revealed that on January 28, the accused did forcefully, unlawfully and indecently assaulted the victim by putting his hand into the teenager’s vaginal (rape) and stealing.

He also said that the accused person also took the teenager’s small phone valued N3,000.
The prosecutor said the following day, (Jan. 29,) in the same place, the accused person also robbed another Glory Ngozi of an Itel phone worth N21,000, body spray N2,500, Bible N2,500, and Scarf N1,000.
According to him, the complainants were coming from the church in a bush part where the accused attacked them.

It was the following day, January 29, that the accused person was caught and handed over to the police.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened sections 351, 390(9), 357 of the Criminal Code , Cap 48,Vol. II, Laws of the defunct Bendel state of Nigeria 1976 as applicable in Edo.
The police prosecutor objected to bail application on the grounds that the offence was not a bailable offence.
The accused person however pleaded not guilty to the five-count charge bothering on assault, theft and rape.
The Chief Magistrate, however, adjourned the case till March 9, for hearing.

The Chief Magistrate said, “This case is for Family Court matter, consequently, the case will be transferred before the adjournment date.”
