Mixed Reactions Trail Singer Ice Prince’s Arrest

The arrest of popular singer, Ice Prince, by the Lagos State Police Command has been met with mixed reactions on social media.

The singer, who currently trends as number one on Twitter, seems to have some sentiments on his side as many tweeps knocked the police and sought to hear the singer’s side. Some others, however, maintained that Ice Prince was not above the law.

Recall that the ‘Oleku’ crooner was arrested in the early hours of Friday for alleged assault of a police officer, according to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin.

Ice Prince driving without license plates, I can believe. Him assaulting a police officer in lagos by 3:00 am, I can’t believe without evidence,” says @snrmanOA.

@drpenking said, “I would still love to hear Ice Prince’s side of the story because how did an armless citizen abduct an armed policeman? How come the policeman was alone? What about his colleagues? Some things are not adding up.”

“It took Nigerian police less than eight hours to arrest Ice Prince for harrasing their officer but it will take them forever to respond when ordinary Nigerian is being harassed by police, Naija police doesnt understand innocent until proven guilty, they treat every suspect as a criminal.

@JdiBobby tweeted, saying he didn’t trust the police, “I still don’t trust y’all Nigerian police. Speaking from experience, y’all can say and do anything if someone doesn’t play your ball by giving you bribe. Will wait for Ice Prince @Iceprincezamani

to speak. Don’t trust y’all.”

@Nsukka_okpa talked about why the singer was looking somehow in the picture shared by Hundeyin.

If you’ve been at any police counter before, you’ll understand why Ice Prince was looking that way. The amount of Insult they hurl at you plus the small small slap you’ll chop. Your face go don swell up before lawyer show,” he tweeted partly in pidgin.

Being a celebrity doesn’t place you above the law, said @SirDavidBent, who tweeted, “Ice Prince abducted a police officer and threatened to throw that same officer into a river. He has been arrested and will be arraigned on several criminal charges/counts.

“Being a celebrity doesn’t mean you’re above the law. He might end up being jailed for a while.”

@Mbahdeyforyou said, “We don hear police side of the story, true true wetin Ice Prince do no good.”

@iSlimfit said, ‘What was Ice Prince thinking? He could have at least called one of his connects in the police to sort him out instead of this embarrassment he put himself into. Now he’ll be made scapegoat.”

The police had said the singer would be arraigned today.

VIDEO: Drama As Portable Jumps Gate To Evade Police Arrest

Men of the Lagos state police command have arrested singer Portable. The singer was arrested today May 14 following a petition from a car dealer.

Portable allegedly purchased a G-Wagon worth N27 million from the car dealer, made a down payment of N14 million and took the vehicle away with the promise to pay the balance.

After waiting for a while without any word concerning his balance, the dealer reached out to the singer who claimed the car he purchased had faults. The dealer then asked the singer to return the car or pay the balance but Portable allegedly refused.

Following a petition from the dealer, the police moved in and arrested the singer. The singer jumped his gate in an attempt to stop his arrest. He is currently in custody at the state police headquarters and might spend the night there as the police is yet to receive any surety for his bail.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Lagos state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest of the singer.

[UPDATED] G-Wagon Debt: Portable To Spend A Night In Cell, As Police Give Condition For His Bail

The Lagos State Police Command, has said that the controversial singer Haberb Okikiola popularly known as Portable would be granted bail only if he is able to produce a reliable surety.

The singer was arrested Tuesday morning following his inability to pay the balance of N14 million out of N27 million worth of a G-Wagon car he purchased from a car dealer.

He was said to have paid only N13 million, while refusing to pay the N14 million balance.

Confirming Portable’s arrest to Vanguard, the spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hudenyin said the singer will spend the night in the police cell, pending when he’s able to produce a reliable surety before he can be granted bail.

“Yes, he’s with us. A vehicle dealer has lodged a complaint against him. “If he gets a reliable surety, he will be granted bail”, said the police spokesman.

However, as at 8.30pm, there was no sign of him being released on bail.

Police Arrest Portable

The Police Command in Lagos State has arrested singer, rapper, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable or Dr. Zeh.

This was confirmed by the Lagos police command spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, to Vanguard in the late hours of Tuesday.

When asked for the reason for the arrest, he said the popular Dr. Zeh was arrested in the morning due to failure to balance up money for a G-Wagon car that he purchased.
