My Husband Made Me Swear That I Will Never Have S3x With Any Other Man; I’m Doomed If We Are Divorced, Woman Tells Court

…She always spends the night with a widower in our neighbourhood —Husband
Grade A Customary Court, sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has adjourned for judgment a divorce suit brought before it by a man, Tajudeen, against his wife, Halimat, whom he accused of adultery among other vices.
Tajudeen said that the blissful union he once enjoyed with Halimat for more than two decades came to an end abruptly after he secured a job outside town.
He added that his neighbours always fed him with the news of his wife’s escapades anytime he was back home for the weekend.
According to the plaintiff, the defendant started dating different men and was constantly sleeping with a man in particular in their neighbourhood.
The plaintiff explained that the defendant abandoned her duties in the home and became a regular face at this man’s house.
Tajudeen further alleged that Halimat was always cooking for this said man and would also carry out other house chores at his home.
He added in his allegations that his wife sometimes brought her other lovers to their house.

According to the plaintiff, he confronted the defendant with these allegations and that she denied having an affair with the said man in the neighbourhood.
According to Tajudeen, Halimat told him that she sometimes showed kindness to the man, being a widower and all alone.
Tajudeen said he warned his wife to stay away from the man, but that to his chagrin, she started spending nights with him.
He also said that he caught her playing host to another lover of hers in their home.
Tajudeeni explained that he got fed up with his wife’s atrocities and reported her to her parents, who rebuked her, and later counselled her, but added that she turned a deaf ear to them, which was the reason he dragged her to court.
The plaintiff prayed the court to dissolve their union.
He also requested an order restraining her from harassing, threatening, and interfering with his private life.
Halimat denied all the allegations brought against her.
She also refused that their union be dissolved.

According to Halimat, she would be doomed if their marriage was dissolved because Tajudeen, early in their marriage, made her to swear to an oath with a deity called Ogun, that she would never have sex with any other man except him.
She explained that if Tajudeen divorced her, she would not be able to have sex with any other man who caught her fancy.
Tajudeen, in his evidence, said: “My wife and I shared a blissful marriage for almost 30 years, but this came to a sudden end when I got a job outside town.
“Halimat misplaced the trust I had in her when she started dating other men.
“Our neighbours informed me that she has strings of lovers whom she brought to our home.
“According to them, she is deeply involved in an affair with a particular one among the men, a widower who stays in our neighbourhood.
“Our neighbours explained that my wife always abandoned her duties in the home and would go to this man’s house, to cook his food and carry out other house chores.

“I initially chose not to believe them because of the trust I had in her, but I later confronted her with the facts I gathered.
“She denied having an affair with the said man.
“She explained that she was just being kind to him, being a widower, and all by himself.
“I instructed her to stop paying the man visits, but I later learnt that she had started spending the night with him.
“I once caught her playing host to one of her lovers in our home.
“I reported her to her parents, who chastised her, and went further to admonish her, but she turned a deaf ear to them, which was why I came to court.
“I pray this honourable court to dissolve our union.
“I also request an order restricting her from harassing, threatening, and interfering with my private life.”
Halimat, in her response, said: “My lord, all that my husband said about me is a lie.
“I also do not agree that our marriage be dissolved.

“I run the home when he is out of town and feed his children from his other wives from my purse, but he still refused that I had rest of mind.
“He started making life hellish for me a year ago after he took another wife.
“He has since then been insisting that I moved out of his house.
“He did the same thing three years ago when he got married to a prostitute who turned our home into a brothel.
“My lord, I am doomed if my husband divorces me. He made me swear to an oath early in our marriage that I will never have sex with any other man except him.
“If the court rules that we go our different ways, I will not be able to have sex with any man that catches my fancy.
“He must undo the oath if he is insisting on divorce.”
The court president, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, after she had heard both parties, adjourned the case for judgment.
