My Wife Stole My Money After Standing As My Guarantor, Ruined Me, Man Tells Court

A man, Farouk, has told Grade A Customary Court, sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, that he is no longer interested in his 10-year-old union with his wife, Saidat, giving theft, constant fight, violence and threat to his life by the latter as his reasons.

Farouk explained that Saidat is hostile to his family and dislikes it when they visit.

He also said that his wife is a thief.

According to the plaintiff, the defendant stood as his surety when he borrowed from a microfinance bank, but she later stabbed him in the back after she copied the key to the wardrobe where he kept the money and stole it.

Farouk further stated that Saidat was troublesome and was in the habit of fighting him.

According to Farouk, Saidat always displays much rage whenever they have a misunderstanding and will turn violent.

He stated that he left home the last time they fought after Saidat drew a knife at him.

The plaintiff said that he started sleeping in his shop and later borrowed money to rent a room because the defendant changed the keys to their house and refused him access to it.

Farouk stated that he could no longer tolerate his wife’s irrational behaviour.

He, therefore, prayed the court to end their relationship and order his wife to move out of his house.

Farouk also pleaded for their children’s custody, stating that his wife was not a good example to them.

The plaintiff further sought an order, restraining her from harassing, threatening, and interfering with his private life.

Saidat refused to make an appearance in court despite being served court summonses.

Farouk, in his evidence, said, “l met my wife 10 years ago, and we held an introduction ceremony.

Our marriage is blessed with four children.

“My wife has refused that I have peace of mind since we got married.

“Saidat is unfriendly and unkind to my relatives.

“She detests that they pay us visits.

“My lord, my wife is a thief.

“She stood as my guarantor when I borrowed money from a microfinance bank, but she later stabbed me in the back.

“I ran into debt after Saidat duplicated the key to the wardrobe where I kept the money and stole it.

“She also took along with the money, documents pertaining to my house, and car.

“She has refused to return these to me.

My wife has no shame. She fought me on a daily basis and also extended her hostility to our neighbours.

“Saidat was always fierce when angry and would hit me with any dangerous object within her reach.

“My wife to my chagrin drew a knife at me the last time we fought.

“I left home for a while after this to avoid her killing me.

“I slept in my shop for weeks and then decided to go back home.

“Saidat, to my surprise, had changed the locks to our house.

“My lord, I left home early last year, and I have not gained access to it till date.

My parents made efforts at mediating in our differences, but Saidat refused that they enter into our home.

“They left in bitterness after Saidat rained curses on them.

“Saidat, after locking me out of the house, still refused that I had peace of mind.

“She came to fight me in my shop, shouting and embarrassing me.

“She came at another time with a younger sibling of hers who beat me to a pulp.

“I was forced to borrow money to rent a one-bedroom apartment where I stay presently.

“My lord, my wife has made my life miserable enough.

“I pray this honourable court to dissolve our marriage and order my wife to move out of my house.

“I also plead for our children’s custody because my wife has never been a good example to them.

“I further request an order restraining my wife from harassing, threatening, and interfering with my private life.”

The court president, Mrs. S.M. Akintayo, adjourned the case until February 3 for further hearing.

Ex-convict Arrested In Edo For Armed Robbery, Possession Of Firearm

The Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) has arrested a 45-year-old ex-convict, Owen Osas, for alleged unlawful possession of firearms and suspected involvement in a robbery incident.

Osas was reportedly arrested with a cut-to-size single-barrel gun during a covert operation along Fishpond Road in Eyean, Uhunmwonde Local Government Area.

The arrest reportedly comes barely a year after he was released from prison, where he had served time for illegal possession of firearms and other criminal offences.

Osas, who confessed to the latest crime, also admitted to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity.

Consequently, a victim of an alleged robbery incident, Reginia Izy, identified Osas as the person who robbed her a day before his arrest.

The victim narrated that the suspect had approached her residence around 8 p.m., pretending to be familiar before carrying out the attack.

‎The Deputy Commander Operations of ESSC, Richard Balogun, said the arrest was part of intensified efforts to rid Edo State of criminal elements.

‎Balogun explained that operatives conduct both overt patrols and covert operations to track and apprehend suspects.

He said, ‎“Our men are always on patrol. Some operate in plain clothes as part of covert strategies, while others are stationed at strategic locations.

“Osas, who is a former convict, was arrested with firearms and he also confessed to be a member of the Eiye Confraternity.”

Gunmen Kidnap Businessman In Ibadan

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a 60-year-old man in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The victim was kidnapped on Saturday while on his way to his residence.

The incident occurred at Jinarere, Alakia in Ibadan.

Public Relations Officer of the State Police command, Olayinka Ayanlade, when contacted, confirmed the incident.

Ayanlade in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Sunday, explained that efforts are ongoing to rescue the victim.

Ayanlade said, “Preliminary information reveals that the victim, a 60-year-old male and building materials trader, was accosted while returning home along the Jinarere axis of Alakia Road by four masked armed men, who forcefully whisked him away in an unregistered ash-coloured Toyota Corolla vehicle”.

Tragedy As Suspected Kidnappers Kill Young Entrepreneur In Edo

A 30-year-old entrepreneur and CEO of Principle Takeout, Justice Abu Oshioke, has been killed by suspected kidnappers in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

He was reportedly attacked by the suspected kidnappers on Saturday while on his way to pick up an order made for his child’s dedication on Sunday morning.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers attempted to force him into a nearby bush in a kidnapping attempt. However, he reportedly resisted and tried to escape.

In the course of the struggle, the assailants opened fire, shooting him multiple times.

Concerned residents quickly rushed him to a nearby medical facility, but he was confirmed dead on arrival.

The deceased was said to have recently gotten married and welcomed a baby boy.

The tragic event has turned a joyous occasion into a moment of grief for the family.

The shocking development has left the Ekpoma community in deep sorrow, with many residents expressing outrage over the growing insecurity in the area.

Edo State Police Command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem confirmed the incident and said the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika has ordered a “full-scale investigation and intensified manhunt for those responsible.” 

According to her, the Police, in collaboration with the military, local vigilantes, and hunters, are actively pursuing the perpetrators through coordinated operations.
