Nigerian politician, Senator Ned Nwoko, has addressed the arrest of Ann Izuegbu Anthonet, a close friend of his estranged wife, Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels.

The arrest had sparked public debate, with Daniels questioning its legality and Nwoko’s team alleging criminal misconduct.

On January 14, Daniels took to social media to challenge the arrest of her friend, highlighting a series of accusations against her friend, ranging from drugs and theft allegations.

In response, Nwoko’s communication team in a statement on instagram dismissed Daniels’ account as “false, reckless, and deliberately intended to distort the facts.”

They stated that Ann was arrested for publicly alleging that Nwoko physically assaulted his wife, Laila Nwoko and causing a miscarriage. Claims they described as entirely false.

The statement also alleged that Ann was involved in procuring illegal abortion for Daniels during her marriage to Nwoko, claiming she caused Daniels to ingest substances that left her bleeding for weeks, resulting in the loss of Nwoko’s unborn child.

Nwoko alleged that Ann is involvement in the handling and distribution of illegal substances, claiming that a formal witness statement was submitted to the Maitama Police Station in October 2025.

Nwoko’s team claimed Ann was arrested for a social media post deemed threatening and defamatory toward the Nwoko family and that the matter is now under investigation by law enforcement agencies.

This is not a social media dispute but a law-enforcement issue grounded in evidence, witness testimonies, and due process,” the statement read.

Daniels recently confirmed that warrants had been issued for her and family members over allegations of stealing $40,000 from Nwoko’s residence.

The estranged couple’s private conflict became public in October after Daniels shared a viral video alleging domestic violence.

Nwoko countered, claiming Daniels struggled with drug and alcohol addiction, while Daniels admitted to drug use but accused Nwoko of orchestrating it as a means of control.

The Nwoko family has called on the public to rely on verified facts and allow law enforcement to handle the matter.

“She told me, ‘did I ask you to draw my name? I don’t like it. Don’t do tattoo again. God said don’t mark your body,’” he recalled.

Shank, however, said he challenged her stance by pointing out what he described as a contradiction.

“I asked her, if you say I should leave my body the way God created it, why do you shave your hair? You that shave hair and me that draw tattoo, we are committing the same sin,” he added.
