on

Nigeria’s highly influential and successful artiste, David Adeleke aka Davido, has got social media users talking and arguing over his recent interview. The afro beat sensation had in the interview on the Big Homies House Podcast, decried the state of the nation, advising against Blacks’ relocation to the country.

He said, “Go where? It is not cool back home. The economy is in shambles. I do my part, I am an ambassador. When I go home and I am filming, I am not going to show the bad parts.

“I am talking about the situation in the country. Now the exchange rate is messed up, a lot of stuffs are not going well. The economy is just not good enough. The oil price is too high. Imagine the country that produces oil, paying more for it than a country importing oil.”

Even Davido’s facial expression during that interview speaks eloquently of a concerned citizen. It’s an indication that he is in touch with reality despite his wealth. Now, lets face it; did he say the fact about our economy? Is home cool? Is the exchange rate cool? Is Nigeria producing crude oil and yet the citizens are purchasing the finished products at an exorbitant rate?

Except for those seriously benefiting from the government, you know the right answers to the above questions. So why crucify Davido? Oh! Felix replied, “Note Davido, only patriots with a conscience can do what you did and Nigerians are proud that you spoke out despite the fact that you are an advantaged man in Nigeria. It was best said the way and manner you served it. You only spoke one aspect of the Nigerian malaise. You did not touch insecurity, dirty politics, Judiciary, legislature, corruption, etc. Yet they are in a panic mode. What a shameless and hypocritical country.”

Dr Ken on @drkenon2 replied, “You don’t intend to perform in Nigeria. Of course, I absolutely agree. I love this interview Davido. Thank you for being very honest. God bless you more.”

I’ve Been Blacklisted In Music Industry For 13 Years – Seun Kuti

Published

By

Grammy-nominated Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti has claimed that he has been blacklisted in the Nigerian music industry for about 13 years due to his style of music.

He explained that because his late father Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and his contemporaries used their music as a form of protest against bad governance, the government invested heavily in vain artists while targeting conscious musicians.

Speaking in a recent episode of the Saleh Meditate podcast, Kuti said government’s interference has significantly affected the quality and impact of modern Nigerian music.

He, however, said being blacklisted in Nigeria doesn’t affect him much, stressing that the country is just a fraction of his fanbase.

He said, “The impact of Fela and his contemporaries who spoke truth to power sacred the government. They made the government realised the power of artistry. So, the government invested more in artists who don’t make conscious music than artists who sing about realities.

“When I am in Nigeria, I don’t fear to say whatever I want to say. That is a lot of people are saying that I should be cancelled. I have been cancelled for about 13 years now after I performed conscious music at former Lagos State Governor Ambode’s event. Even before then, my music was heavily restricted.

“I have been cancelled for long. People think I am not cancelled because I am doing well. Nigeria has cancelled me long time but Nigeria is just like a really small percentage of my market. So, being cancelled doesn’t really affect me.”

He added that artists who are scared of being blacklisted are only scared because Nigeria makes up the bulk of their fanbase.
