Nigeria Requires $410bn By 2060 To Address Energy Constraints, Policy Flexibility – Sylva

The Federal Government has revealed that in order to tackle Nigeria’s energy constraints and policy flexibility, it will require $410 billion by the year 2060.

It explained that the sum of $10 billion will be needed per annum to achieve the transition plan.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Gabriel Tanimu Aduda,
stated this at the 7th Meeting of National Council on Hydrocarbons in Minna, Niger State.

Speaking on the theme, Roadmap and Strategic Option Towards Achieving Energy Transition in Nigeria, Sylva explained that the country is committed to achieving carbon neutrality, ending energy poverty by lifting 100 million people out of poverty and driving economic growth.

“Nigeria will be one of the 50 to have launched its guidelines for the management of fugitive methane and greenhouse gases emissions in the upstream oil and gas sector latest this year.

“Hence, the gathering of experts and policy makers in energy sector was designed to discuss and review energy related issues, identified opportunities, problems to proffers solutions in line with global best practices,” he revealed.”

The minister also disclosed that the country, through the Solid Minerals Development Fund is on the verge of unveiling its cutting edge technology in gold mining to eliminate harmful reagents, use of cyanide for human and environmentally friendly practices.

On Hydro carbons deposit in the Bida basin-, Sylva added, “thirty-four memorandums were received, seven were merged while eleven were stepped down. The memos were presented to the council for consideration that the Niger State has large quantity of solid resources and hydrocarbon deposit in commercial quantity”.

Also, Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, in his address said the state has commercial deposit of hydrocarbons in Bida Basin sequel to the progressive reports and findings of the consultants from IBBU Lapai and FUT Minna.

Bello who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government SSG Alh. Ahmed Ibrahim Matane appealed to the relevant agencies to expedite actions on the exploration in the Bida Basin for optimal benefits.

The Deputy Governor  of Edo State, Engr. Marvellous Omobayo, has tasked female journalists in the state under the auspices of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, to adhere strictly to the tenets of the profession in their reportage.

Omobayo gave the advice when he received a delegation of the women journalists at his office in Benin.

The used the opportunity of the visit to reiterate his maximum support for the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki to finish strong on his Make Edo Great Again, MEGA project.

‘I’ve Become An Evangelist’ – Doyin Okupe

The former campaign director for the Labour Party during the 2023 presidential election, Doyin Okupe, has announced his new vocation as an evangelist of Jesus Christ following his recovery from cancer.

Detailing the challenges he faced with cancer, which initially appeared 16 years ago as prostate cancer and recently in the soft tissues of his right shoulder, Okupe highlighted the role of his medical treatment and divine intervention in his recovery.

The first problem was cancer I had and the chemotherapy makes you lose appetite, you have nausea, and even as you sustain for several months, you lose weight,” he told Channels TV.

Okupe recounted how his weight dropped from 127kg to 97kg during chemotherapy and settled at 103kg after the treatment ended.

In all these, I bear witness to God and Jesus Christ, I’m a testimony to the fact that there is nothing the Lord God Jehovah can’t do,” Okupe affirmed.

“From now on, I have become an evangelist and a witness for Christ.”

Court Dethrones Ondo Monarch After 29 Years Of Legal Tussle

Oba Micheal Adetunji Oluwole, the traditional ruler of Ute in the Ose local government area of Ondo state has been dethroned by a state High Court sitting in Owo, Owo local government area of the state after a legal tussle that lasted for 29 years.

Olule Omolaja Ruling House had challenged the retired Army Major’s right to ascend the throne.

Justice Ademola Enikuomehin who nullified the selection process that brought Oba Oluwole to the throne and ordered a fresh selection process into the stool, ordered Oluwole to stop parading himself as the traditional ruler of the town. The fresh selection process will be from the Olule Omoloja ruling house lineage.

According to Justice Enikuomehin, the dethroned monarch had no right to the throne as he’s not a member of the ruling house designated to fill the vacant throne of the town.
