Insurance celebrates 2-1 victory against Remo Stars

Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin defeated the Nigeria Premier Football League 2924/25 leaders, Remo Stars of Ikenne 2-1 in the Match Day 28 fixture in Benin.

The captain of the Benin Arsenals, Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi, scored in each half, to hand Insurance FC the three maximum point against the high flying sky blue boys from Ikenne.

Meyiwa, whose form and leadership have been consistently superb, gave Insurance an early lead just a minute and 45 seconds into the game as Ini Eden’s well propelled cross from the left flank was flicked by Uche Collins towards well positioned Meyinwa Oritseweyinmi who didn’t miss his target with his shot that opened scoring for his side.

The visitors, however, showed some resistance to prevent more goals before the half time whistle as Uche Collins, Kayode Oke and Osahon Osobo came close to increasing the tally before half time.

In the second half, Insurance continued to mount pressure in search of another goal for safety and their hard work paid off in the 54th when Meyiwa again, fired a sublime strike.

The visitors made multiple substitutions in search of their rythm which worked for them in the 82 minutes as Samuel Anakwe neatly headed home a good reply to force Insurance out of the comfort zone.

Insurance remain consistent in their fight for stability and pushed for silverware in the league this season.

Meanwhile, Meyinwa’s impressive form earned him the Man of the Match with N150,000 worth Award sponsored by the Nigeria Breweries(NB).

The award was presented to him the Edo State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu.

The 2-1 victory over high flying Remo Stars has helped Insurance climb up one step from 8th position with 41 points on the table.

The Benin Arsenals will be guests to Abia Warriors in the Match Day 29 next week

NPFL: Bendel Insurance Announce Departure Of 25 Players

Bendel Insurance have announced the departure of 25 players ahead of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, season.

Captain Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi, Austin Ogunye, and Bernard Ovoke are among the top stars who have left the Benin Arsenal.

Other key players, who left the club are Moses Abioye, Uche Collins, Michael Enaruna, and Uche Collins.

The Benin City club are expected to make new signings to replace the departed players before the commencement of the new campaign.

Insurance finished in a respectable fifth position last season with 56 points from 38 games.

Nigerian football icon Jay-Jay Okocha recently hosted his former Super Eagles coach, Clemens Westerhof, at his Lagos home.

Westerhof, who posted photos from the visit on Instagram on Friday, called it an “unforgettable night of my life” and thanked Okocha for his warm hospitality.

Westerhof, a Dutch national, managed the Nigerian national team from 1989 to 1994.

Transfer: Atalanta Hold Lookman Back From Inter Milan Move

Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman has again told his Italian side, Atalanta, about his desire to leave this summer.

The camp of the Super Eagles’ forward conveyed the player’s decision to the club on Tuesday after Inter presented a written proposal of €42m plus €3m add-ons.

Atalanta are insisting on €50m valuation for the Nigerian international and there is no green light to the move as of now, according to football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano.
