NSF: Aim For Top Honours, Edo Sports Commission Boss Charges Coaches, Others

As the 2025 National Sports Festival draws closer, the Executive Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has charged Team Edo to aim for top honours in the national games.

Enabulele gave the charge in Benin on Thursday during a meeting with coaches from various sports and stakeholders in preparation for the fiesta scheduled to hold in Ogun State later this year.

The sports commission boss, while stating that he conveyed the meeting to assess the preparation for the Ogun games, noted that the aim of the meeting was to get feedback from the coaches, and to assess their current strengths and challenges of the athletes as the state continues preparation for the competition.

Enabulele was quoted in a statement issued by his media aide, Edoko Wilson Edoko as saying: “We are not just going to the festival to participate; we are going to win medals.

“It will not be business as usual because our amiable Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, is deeply committed to advancing sports in Edo State.”

He stressed that success is a collective responsibility, urging coaches to deliver tangible results commensurate with the state government’s and the sports commission’s commitment and resources invested.

Enabulele encouraged the coaches to do their very best in preparing the athletes in their care for the festival.

Go out there and bring back results. We are eager to collect as many medals as possible and emerge as the top team,” he charged.

He reassured the coaches that under his leadership, the commission remains committed to their welfare.

“Our core mandate, in line with the vision of Governor Monday Okpebholo and Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, is to restore Edo State’s prominence in sports at both national and international levels,” Enabulele emphasized.

The 2025 National Sports Festival is scheduled to hold in Abeokuta, Ogun State, from May 16 to 30, 2025.

Chelsea legend, Petr Cech, has advised his old club on how to win the UEFA Champions League or the English Premier League.

Chelsea are already out of the Premier League title race this season, and they are at risk of missing out on UEFA Champions League qualification for next season because they are currently not in the ninth position on the Premier League table.

Speaking to The Athletic about Chelsea, Cech said that the Blues need to change their philosophy of signing only young players if they want to win the Premier League or Champions League.

According to the former goalkeeper, the Premier League west London club needs to add experienced players to mentor the young players in the squad.

You have to change your philosophy. Certain things don’t go together because, in order to win a Champions League or a Premier League… these are really tough competitions, and you have to be consistent.

“You need to have a strong core of the team. And then you can bring young, talented players who will grow faster and then will be held by the experienced players to help navigate them through difficult times when they come.”

Currently, Chelsea have just one player, Tosin Adarabioyo, who is over 28 this season, and the defender has not been playing regularly.
