NWFL: Edo Queens Beat Adamawa Queens 2 Nil In Group A

Edo Queens Football Club of Benin Wednesday climbed back the top of the Nigeria Women Football League NWFL group A with 17 points after beating visiting Adamawa Queens 2 goals to nothing at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin.

Edo Queens started second half of the game of the NWFL group A with 14 points with Nasarawa Amazons who won earlier in the day on 15 points.

Adaobi Okah gave Edo queens an Early lead in the 7th minute with a brilliant header from a Suliat Abideen corner kick, before Abideen turned Scorer in the 24th minute to put Edo Queens 2 goals up, which ended first Half.

Both teams had to endure the pouring rains at the beginning of the second half, as the half remained goalless despite both teams having good opportunities to score keeping both goal keepers at their best, to end the game 2 zero.

Players of Edo Queens however surprised their fans after the game as they shared their jerseys to the home fans.

Speaking with Journalists after the match, Edo Queens assistant coach John Niyi praised her girls for playing to instruction which gave them the victory.

Coach Niyi noted that “we just are coming back from the break, and during the mid season we registered our players in the gym and they are now stronger with good stamina. You could see they were more in control and were not going down easily.

“We thank God for the 2 goals and 3 points and we will prepare hard to ensure we pick maximum 3 points in our next game against Niaja Ratels in Abuja, because when they came here we made a lot of mistakes and drew them 2-2. I am impressed with our performance so far.”

On his part, Adamawa Queens Technical Adviser Jacob Vandi explained that ” we played against a good team today. Edo Queens are standard. If you watch the match, they have quality players and their organization is standard. They scored 2 good goals and you can not fault the team of officiating in any way.”

Edo Queens will play their next match away in Abuja against Niaja Ratel

The result took South Africa to six points, one behind group winners Egypt. Both sides have qualified for the next round, alongside Nigeria and Algeria.

AFCON: Uganda Coach Lists Three Things His Team Must Do Against Nigeria

Uganda head coach Paul Put has outlined three key areas his side must focus on to secure victory against Nigeria when both teams clash in Tuesday’s Africa Cup of Nations tie.

Put’s side must claim all three points against the Super Eagles or risk an early exit from the competition. The Cranes have just one point in Group C after their opening two matches.
A win against Nigeria could see Uganda qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.

However, speaking at his pre-match press conference on Monday, Put said that for Uganda to overcome Eric Chelle’s side, they must “concentrate be very prepared and win their duels” against Nigeria.

We have to go for it [win against Nigeria] and we will do it,” Put said.

“Nigerians play at a high level in Europe, so we have to be very concentrated, very prepared and win our duels, which is one of the strong points of Nigeria.”

AFCON 2025: Lookman Scores Winner As Super Eagles Start Campaign With 2–1 Victory Over Tanzania

Ademola Lookman scored what proved to be the decisive goal as Nigeria beat Tanzania 2-1 in their opening game at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles came into the match as heavy favourites to win and dominated the opening exchanges.

After coming close a few times, the three-time champions took the lead through Semi Ajayi.
