NYG: Edo Continues Impressive Outing, Wins 14 More Medals

Team Edo has continued its impressive outing in the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, as the battle for supremacy gets fierce following another gold and bronze medals win in the female category of cycling point race on Thursday morning.

Godwin Osaretin of Edo who has smashed the record of individuals time trial in both male and female categories won the gold medal ahead of her Kwara Atanda Damola Hikmat and her fellow edolite Ogbe Divine who won Silver and bronze medals respectively.

In Tennis singles female category, a 12 year-old German-born Edo Athlete, Lorelay Hoizendorff Senglide over came her much older counterpart from Ekiiti, Goodness Aina, in 6:3, 6:2 best of three set to win the gold medal.

Little Senglide who is billed to represent Nigeria in the forthcoming African Championship in Morocco promised to surpass the feats of the Williams sisters (Serena and Venus Williams) sisters in Tennis

The Edo team had on Wednesday won four gold, five silver and a bronze medals as its quest for the top finish intensifies after day five of the youth games

Delta and Lagos states are currently leading the medal table with more games to be decided on Thursday and Friday morning.

A breakdown of the total medals won by Team Edo indicates that the team won two each in gold in Chess and Teakwood event, five silver medals in Chess and Teakwood events.

While the state also captured one bronze in Teakwood events to cap an impressive outing on Wednesday.

In Darts Mixed Double event, Team Edo won the silver medal.

Former Manchester United striker, Dimitar Berbatov, has named the team that could “surprise” Arsenal in the Premier League title race.
