Obaseki’s Family To Britain: Pay Us Our Father’s Entitlements

The family of late Ededuna Walter Obaseki has called on the British government to pay them the pensions and entitlements of their patriarch.

The late Obaseki was said to have served the British Government during World War II and in the process earned the British War Medal awarded by King George VI that accorded him CBE (Commander of the British Empire).

A letter to the British High Commissioner and British authorities in Abuja, Lagos, London and Buckingham palace, said direct descendants of Eneduna have been shortchanged over the years and want that corrected

The letter said only surviving child of Eneduna Obaseki is already 93 years old and longed to see the wrongs were corrected in her life time.

The letter added that he (late Obaseki) reportedly died in 1939 and that the British government even participated in his burial.

The letter signed by Mercy Ededuna Obaseki on behalf of the direct descendants of Ededuna Obaseki, said her grand father was the only one who heeded the call for young boys and girls in Benin City, after the 1897 expedition, to travel to United Kingdom to acquire formal education where he rose to several positions serving British government.

Part of the letter reads: “Even when the entire Benin Kingdom was in doubt if any good will come out from the invitation for young men and little boys to be sent to the headquarters of the glorious British Empire, London, for proper formal education and training in The Royal Navy, Sciences, Engineering, Construction Maritime Works, International Trade, British Military Careers, and General Merchandise, he was the brave and only one who yielded that call to go to England for training in that first time soon after the Benin City expedition of 1897.

“Help us so that we the direct descendants will be able to raise our heads high in the society and become great by mentioning the works of my father and grandfather and letting people know his works and services to humanity in an era of trust building and international global relationship.

“So, right now, I need the British government to respond and do the needful, let us have the benefit of our grand patriarch so that we will be able to tell the world how he got the opportunity for his education abroad, when everyone else in Benin City could not trust The British to give out their children for training in the U.K.”(sic)

Russia Calls up 135,000 Military Personnel

Russia has enlisted 135,000 conscripts for military service in 2026, following the conclusion of the autumn army draft by the Defense Ministry.

A statement on Monday said most personnel have been assigned to training units and military formations where they will “get a military specialty and learn to operate modern military hardware.”

The conscripts can choose to serve in any of the various military branches and armed services after an assessment of their health condition and the results of psychological examinations.

The ministry disclosed that 680 recruits have joined scientific and research-production units, while 240 from the country’s national teams in Olympic disciplines joined sports companies.

However, military personnel who have served the established term of military service have been discharged and sent to their places of residence.

The latest enlistment confirms Russia is shoring up its troops deployed to the ongoing special military operation in Ukraine ahead of the new year.

A fortnight ago, European leaders reaffirmed their pledge to form a multinational force–under the aegis of the Coalition of the Willing–to assist Ukraine in securing land, skies, and seas.

The pledge is one of the six commitments the EU and heads of state developed for Ukraine’s security and economic recovery support measures.

In an interview with TASS on Sunday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov condemned Europe’s insistence on sending military forces to Ukraine.

“We have said many times that our Armed Forces would view them as a legitimate target,” he said, warning that anyone who attacks Russia would face “a devastating blow.”

Riley Moore, a member of the United States House of Representatives from West Virginia’s 2nd District, has linked the absence of Christmas attacks in Nigeria this year to US military airstrikes carried out against Islamist militants on Christmas Day.

In a post on his official X account on Saturday, Moore contrasted the situation with the past two Christmas seasons, during which he claimed Christians were killed in attacks across parts of Nigeria.

The lawmaker noted that this year’s response targeted extremist groups instead of marking another period of violence.

He added that US forces acted decisively against militants in coordination with the Nigerian government.

“For the past two Christmases, Christians have been murdered in Nigeria. This year, thanks to @POTUS, Radical Islamic Terrorists were on the receiving end of 12 Tomahawk missiles as a present.

“The successful strikes on ISIS, in coordination with the Nigerian government, are just the first step to secure the country and end the slaughter of our brothers and sisters in Christ,” Moore wrote.

US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that American forces had conducted deadly strikes against Islamic State terrorists in north-western Nigeria.

Trump, who spoke via his Truth Social platform, warned that more attacks would follow if the militants continued killing Christians, adding that the Department of War executed numerous “perfect strikes.”

United States Congressman, Riley Moore, has stated that President Donald Trump is determined to put an end to the killing of Christians in Nigeria, warning that further action may follow if the violence persists.

Moore made the statement on Friday via his official X handle.

According to the lawmaker, the strike represents the first step in addressing what he described as the ongoing slaughter of Christians and the broader security crisis affecting Nigerians across religious and ethnic lines.

“President Trump has been clear that the killing of Christians in Nigeria must end,” he said.

He that the administration’s resolve on the matter should not be underestimated.

“As I stated at the outset: Do not test President Trump‘s resolved in this matter.

“Tonight’s strike in coordination with the Nigerian government is just the first step to ending the slaughter of Christians and the security crisis affecting all Nigerians,” he said.

He stressed that the operation signals a stronger stance by the United States in support of Nigeria’s efforts to tackle terrorism and violent extremism, noting that further measures could be taken if the situation does not improve.
