In spite of the series of violence that characterised the State congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun, the two major factions in the party have succeeded in electing parallel officials.
Recall that it was eported earlier that there were heavy gunshots at the Ake Palace Pavilion, where loyalists of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun had converged for their congress.
Hoodlums allegedly led by a transport union leader had stormed the Ake palace square, shooting heavily to scare away the Amosun supporters.
The political thugs, suspected to be from the other camp, were said to have smashed vehicle windscreens, while injuring some of the Amosun supporters.
However, as policemen restored normalcy, the Amosun camp succeeded in electing Chief Derin Adebiyi as its APC State Chairman, among other 35 party executive members, adopting consensus arrangement to elect the excos and affirmed by the delegates.
Those present at the gathering were the Minister for Mines and Steel Development, Olalekan Adegbite; the Senators representing Ogun East and West in the National Assembly, Lekan Mustapha and Tolu Odebiyi; Ogun governorship candidate, Hon. Adekunle Akinlade.
The congress was equally monitored by Gbenga Opaleye as the Chairman State Congress committee.
In the same vein, Abiodun and his loyalists, who gathered at the MKO Abiola Stadium, with former Governor Gbenga Daniel, former Deputy Governor Adegbenga Kaka and other APC members loyal to his group, produced Chief Yemi Sanusi as the State Chairman of the party.
Surgeons Gave Me Scary News, Pray For Me, Metuh Begs Nigerians
Olisa Metuh, a former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has pleaded with Nigerians to pray for him over his health.
Metuh took to Facebook page sharing a picture of him on a sick bed, as he revealed he had to undertake many surgeries last year.
His post read , “In the last one year, I have had many surgeries and procedures and I’m believing God this will be my last.
“No matter how angry you have been about my outspokenness or outright naked challenge to power back then, please pray for me.
“The cankerworm had eaten deeply into my health, it has not been easy with me and I’ve only remained whole through the mercies of God.”
The PDP chieftain said he received scary news from his surgeons but hopes that God would heal him.
“I got some scary news from the surgeons today, but my faith remains in God Almighty and with your prayers and by His stripes I am healed and would remain whole in Jesus name,” Metuh said.
DAILY POST recalls that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, arraigned Metuh in 2016 on seven counts of money laundering for allegedly receiving N400million from the national security adviser’s office.
In February 2020, Judge Okong Abang declared Metuh guilty on all counts of money laundering and sentenced him to seven years in prison.
In March 2020, Metuh, through his counsel, filed an appeal and was freed from Kuje prison in December 2020. He was granted N250m bail.
2023: Defectors Declare APC Carcass In Delta
Some former leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Delta State yesterday described the main opposition party in the state as a carcass.
The former opposition leaders who were officially received into the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with thousands of their supporters at a mega rally in Asaba, said the APC in Delta has been on life support, and that they were the engine room before now, noting that the party was now dead and buried as a result of their exit.
Those who defected include former state chairman of APC, Cyril Ogodo; state publicity secretary of the APC caretaker committee, Sylvester Imonina; and former senatorial chairman of APC, Ben Onwuka.
Others were leaders of various APC support groups including Ovie Omo-Agege Solidarity Movement, G30 APC group led by Sylvester Ogbokuni; Leaders and Elders Council of APC Delta Central led by Sylvester Kohwo, among others.
But a founding leader of APC in the state and 2015 governorship candidate of the party, O’tega Emerhor, described the defectors as stomach politicians who had been financially induced to declare for the PDP, noting that the APC would not miss them.
Regardless, the defectors who spoke separately at the PDP rally said they were happy in their new party, insisting that with their exit from APC, the opposition was dead in Delta.
Ogodo, leader of the defectors, in his remarks said: “We have come here to collapse APC in Delta. The hand we used in building APC is the same hand we now use to scatter it today.”
2023: PDP May Shock APC If Internal Crisis Continues – APC Chieftain
… Says Amaechi Best Presidential Candidate
Ex-Rivers State governorship aspirant and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prince Tonye Princewill has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may return to power in 2023 if the APC is unable to resolve its internal crisis.
Princewill, in a chat with newsmen in Lagos, said if the APC is unable to resolve its internal crisis before the 2023 elections, it will be possible for the former ruling party to take over the leadership of the country.
The former guber aspirant anchored his position on the short memories of Nigerians, who may have forgotten what the PDP did to them in its eight years in power.
He said, “It’s not impossible. PDP is weak and also prone to a customized implosion of its own, but nobody should ever be underestimated. Nigerians have very short memories. Some have forgotten what PDP represents and cut off their nose to spite their face. I’ve seen men do very strange things, only to regret it later.
“Besides, powerful men being out of power for eight years can do powerful things like swallowing their own vomit to get back in. For many, politicians, politics and power is all they know. They can do anything to remain relevant.
“The other factor to consider is 2023 may not be about party. It may be about the candidate. If PDP brings a popular candidate, he or she can give the party a new image. The message to us in APC is ‘do not take Nigerians for granted’. And I am so sure, we will not,’’ he said.
Speaking on political parties’ internal crises, the prince of the Kalabari kingdom opined that Nigeria’s biggest challenge is internal party democracy.
He argued that even though corruption insecurity, unemployment is second on the list of Nigeria’s problems, the nation’s biggest problem is internal party democracy.
According to Princewill, ‘’How we as party members chose our leaders. If we can get that right, the leaders we have will be true representatives of the wishes of the people and then the scourges of youth unemployment, corruption and insecurity that the masses are facing will give way to the development that has been so elusive to our beloved nation.’’
He traced the problems in political parties to the lack of internal party democracy. He, however, recommended reconciliation as a critical aspect of moving forward, as according to him, ‘’It is not what happens to you, but how it is addressed. Show respect, listen to opposing views and find a way to put them behind you and you will see the results.
Princewill recalled APC reconciliation in 2014, stating that it showed Nigeria how ‘’reconciliation and collective interests produced a consensus that overthrew an incumbent government. Men decided to bury personal interests to converge around a single ideal that kicked PDP out of power. In the pursuit of retaining power, APC has to do the same otherwise it will have a taste of its own medicine. A word is enough for the wise.’’
Speaking on zoning, the APC chieftain said zoning has no place in mature democracy but that in a “fledgling one like ours, with a pluralistic foundation and a history of ethnic, cultural and religious tensions, only a politician blinded by overreaching ambitions, can ignore it. Since the world is full of selfish politicians, there are many legal loopholes available to deny zoning. But that which is unjust and morally bankrupt eventually falls.”
On 2023 presidential aspirants, Princewill said, even though Tinubu is entitled to run, his candidate remains Rt Hon Rotimi Amaechi ‘’and I say so, not just because he is from my state because that is not enough. I say so because his track record, his commitment, his energy, his ability to get things done, his age and his ability to reach a consensus over the years, stands him in good stead.
“As our speaker, he was the Chair of Speakers, as Governor, he was the Chair of Governors, as Minister, he is the best performing Minister, by far. So as President, I know the trend will continue. Nigeria is far too important to leave tomorrow to chance.”

On Goodluck Jonathan’s alleged move to the APC for the same ambition, DAILY POST quoted him, “Some of us in Rivers State who fell victim to the imposition of Wike on us in 2015, remember the role of our former President and his wife in the marginalization of their fellow Ijaw’s interest for the Governor of Rivers State.
“Like we later suffered in the 2019 election too, a desire to settle personal scores with Amaechi also contributed to making us lose that election too.
“We are still suffering the consequences today. But it’s politics, it isn’t personal. Let’s leave speculation, my father taught me not to believe in my breakfast until I’ve eaten it. If the former President comes to join us, we will give him a special welcome,” he said.
