By Joseph Ebi Kanjo

The Executive Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission, Amadin Desmond Enabulele, on Monday disclosed that the Sen. Monday Okpebholo-led administration in the state prioritized sporting activities.

He added that the governor plan is to build a camp for the state-owned football clubs-Bendel Insurance and Edo Queens – where they will have everything at their reach.

He further disclosed that the current administration in the state has deemed it fit to give every sporting activity the necessary attention, and not football alone.

He made this known in Benin when he had a brief chat with sports journalists.

Enabulele, while describing how the current administration prioritizes sporting activities, disclosed that the government plan is not just to upgrade facilities used by the state-owned clubs particularly Edo Queens, but to provide a place where they have everything at their reach.

“When we talk about Edo Queens, we all know that they are doing well. They gave us a 5-star delivery. They beat their counterpart – Abia Angeles 5 goals to nil. All these are indications that this commission under my watch is ready to deliver.

We are not just going to upgrade their facilities. Some of the plans of the state government is to build a camp where we have hostels, the pitch and every other facility you may think of in a football camp,” he noted.

Further speaking on the state-owned female football club, the Commission Chairman said his expectation from Edo Queens is to win the CAF Women’s Champions League next season.

On Bendel Insurance, the Sports Commission Chairman said though he met the club in a bad shape, today they have improved dramatically.

“When we came on board, we discovered that the team was empty. They were just running on their own; purely the technical department. Bendel Insurance was sitting at the 20th position, just below the table – the red zone, but today, by God’s grace, they are in 15th position,” he added.

Enabulele, while noting that the commission under his watch is ready for the task ahead, emphasized that aside football, other sporting activities would be given the necessary attention in the state.

That’s four red cards this season; it’s not good enough. I’ve spoken about it; the manager needs to talk with the players, because it’s costing us games as well,” Mikel Obi said on his podcast.

“If you look at that game, if we finished with eleven men, I think we could’ve won. Maybe not easily, but comfortably, we could’ve secured a win.”

Liverpool manager, Arne Slot, has revealed that Mohamed Salah was “not happy” to be dropped for their 2-0 win at West Ham on Sunday.

Salah was named on the bench at the London Stadium for the Premier League fixture.

Slot took the bold decision, as he looked to arrest a poor run of form, that saw the Reds lose nine of 12 matches.

Salah was not summoned from the bench for the entire 90 minutes, as goals from Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo sealed victory.

It was a normal reaction for a player who is good enough to play for us,” Slot said.

“I say that mildly as he’s been so outstanding for this club and will be in the future. He wasn’t happy he wasn’t starting but he wasn’t the only one.”
