Osun Tribunal: Lawyer Speaks On Judgement

Published

on

A lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has said that there is no cause for alarm as the Osun State Election Petition Tribunal will on Friday (tomorrow) deliver a judgment on the victory of Governor Ademola Adeleke in the July 16 governorship election.

Olajengbesi, who said “the language of justice is clear and will be dispensed appropriately,” also expressed optimism that the Tribunal on Friday would dismiss the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress and former governor Gboyega Oyetola against Governor Adeleke.

He said the Tribunal would dismiss Oyetola and the APC’s petition just as the Supreme Court threw away a case by an ex-governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dotun Babayemi, challenging Adeleke’s candidature in September 2022.

Adeleke had in the governorship election on July 16 secured 403,371 votes, 28,344 more than Oyetola who polled 375,027 votes. Adeleke’s victory was resounding as he recorded a landslide win in 17 local governments out of the 30 local councils. Adeleke was subsequently announced as the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission and sworn in as Executive Governor on November 27, 2022.

However, Oyetola and the APC approached the Tribunal to challenge Senator Adeleke’s victory.

Olajengbesi said, “The victory of Senator Ademola Adeleke as the Governor of Osun State is divinely orchestrated. It is a testament that God rules over the affairs of men and gives power to whoever he wills and in this case, He has made Adeleke the occupant of the Osun Government House for the next four years.

“There is no cause for alarm as the Tribunal delivers its judgement on Friday. The Adeleke camp remains unshaken because the language of justice is clear and it will be dispensed appropriately in our favour.”

Expressing confidence, he said, “Again, like the Supreme Court ruled in favour of Adeleke in September, the Tribunal will affirm the senator as the democratically elected governor of Osun on Friday and this matter will be laid to rest at once.

“The people of Osun defended their mandate at the election in July and will defend it once more at the Tribunal. Adeleke shall emerge victorious once more.”
