He said: “This training was in 2023 budget. I added it to the budget. But I would have just leave it because I am no longer in office. I could have as well connived with the Institute to share the money, but I can’t do that. To empower people is a vow I made with my God.”

He continued: “I am not doing this because of politics. It is my passion to empower people. I made the promise before my election. I decided to train people because I know there is power in knowledge; there is no knowledge that is a waste.

“Since I was elected in 2015, I have been doing this training for all our people in Edo South, regardless of tribe. Inasmuch as you are a resident in Edo south, you will benefit from it, either you voted for me or not.

“I trained over 750 people that came from Lybia. I used the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs then to do the training, all of them were trained for three weeks, and after that they were given certificate and each of them was paid 500,000. We asked them to go and start something. Some of them have become self-sufficient today.

“I am not going to shed tears. If you hit me, I hit you. I think it is appropriate in diplomacy. It is an economic struggle,” Oshiomhole said.

He argued that while some South Africans accuse Nigerians of taking their jobs, Nigerians should return home and take over employment opportunities created by major South African companies operating in the country, including MTN and DSTV.
