PHOTOS: NAFDAC Destroys Fake Products Worth N20bn In Oyo

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control on Friday destroyed counterfeit, expired, banned, and substandard products valued at N20 billion during its South-West Zonal Destruction Flag-off Ceremony at the Moniya Dumpsite in Ibadan.
The exercise, NAFDAC said, is part of ongoing efforts to safeguard public health by permanently removing unsafe, falsified, and violative products from circulation, a release shared by the agency on its website and social media handle noted.
Items destroyed included substandard and falsified medicines, unsafe processed foods, counterfeit cosmetics, and various expired goods seized from manufacturers, importers, and distributors across the South-West.
The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, commended the collaboration with other enforcement agencies, highlighting the scale of the operation:

“We commend the strong partnership with @CustomsNG, especially the recent handover of 25 containers of counterfeit and substandard pharmaceuticals, including a reefer container, for destruction.
“This is a clear demonstration of our collective commitment to protecting the health of Nigerians.”
Adeyeye also acknowledged the support of the “Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services, Pharmacists Council of Nigeria, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,” describing it as crucial in the “sustained national fight against counterfeiters.”

She reiterated NAFDAC’s resolve to continue targeting unsafe products.
The agency boss stated, “Our mandate is to ensure that unsafe, falsified, and violative products are permanently removed from circulation.
“We will continue to work relentlessly to safeguard the health and wellbeing of every Nigerian.”
According to the release, the destruction exercise, which drew officials and stakeholders from across the region, underscores NAFDAC’s proactive approach to tackling counterfeit goods that pose serious risks to public safety.

Military Captures Plateau Gunrunner, Recovers Arms

The Joint Military Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP), has apprehended a suspected gunrunner and recovered several arms in Plateau State.
The suspect, identified as Ishaya Musa, was arrested at the Jebbu Bassa Bypass checkpoint in Bassa Local Government Area on November 14, 2025.
The Spokesman for the Military Task Force, Major Samson Zhakom, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Saturday.
Zhakom said troops recovered several weapons from the suspect, including six fabricated single-barrel rifles, two fabricated revolver rifles, one Dane gun, one expended cartridge, and other sundry items.

According to him, the operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb illicit arms trafficking and enhance national security.
“The suspect and recovered items are in custody for further action,” the statement said.
The military urged the public to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies, especially as the harvest and yuletide season approaches.
“This operation highlights the unwavering commitment of JTF OPEP to protecting law-abiding citizens, preventing the proliferation of illegal weapons, and maintaining peace and stability within the Joint Operations Area,” the statement added.

In another local government in the state, the same task force raided a suspected gunrunner’s hideout in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, recovering a cache of weapons and ammunition.
The operation was carried out on November 13 at Fashoron Village in Daffo District by Sector 2 (Sub-Sector 2) of the task force.
Our correspondent reports that Plateau State has experienced security challenges for many years, prompting authorities to intensify efforts to restore order.
The suspect’s arrest is the latest in a series of security operations by the joint task force, during which several individuals have been apprehended for alleged involvement in armed robbery, kidnapping and other crimes.

Father Arrested For Abusing Daughters In Delta

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 54-year-old man, Mr. Edward Odega, for allegedly defiling his three daughters in Delta State.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest on Saturday in Asaba.
According to Edafe, the abuse, which had gone on for seven years, came to light after the Divisional Police Officer of the Ogborikoko Division, CSP Temi Agbede Zuokumor, conducted an enlightenment outreach in a school, during which one of the victims disclosed her ordeal.
He said, “The Command has arrested a father who had been defiling his three daughters for the past seven years.

“The three children are now aged 13, 15 and 24. The disclosure by one of them during the DPO’s school outreach led to the arrest of the father.”
Edafe added that the three children are currently receiving medical attention.
During interrogation, Odega confessed to the crime, admitting: “I have three daughters, and I started sleeping with my first daughter when she was 12 years old.”

He also admitted to defiling the other two daughters, aged 13 and 15.
Edafe noted that the suspect is “in custody” and will be “charged to court to face full prosecution” in line with the state’s laws on sexual offences.
In October, two fathers, Azeez Lamidi and Oyewole Adamolekun, were arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly impregnating their daughters after multiple incidents of sexual abuse.

APC Chieftain Killed In Suspected Zamfara Bandit Attack

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Zamfara State, Umar Moriki, has been reportedly killed by gunmen suspected to be armed bandits.
As reported by Channels TV, the incident occurred on Saturday morning along the Gusau–Tsafe highway near Fegi village in Tsafe Local Government Area while Moriki was travelling from Gusau to Kaduna.
The state chapter of the APC, led by Tukur Danfulani, confirmed the death, calling it “a tragic loss for both the party and the state.”
According to a statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of the party in Zamfara State, Yusuf Idris, the late APC stalwart had just participated in the party’s stakeholders’ meeting hosted by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.

Moriki held several prominent political roles during his career, including Vice Chairman of Zurmi Local Government Area, Director-General of a state agency, and Special Adviser on Rural Electrification. He also contested for the Zurmi/Shinkafi House of Representatives seat in the 2023 elections.
He died at the age of 62 and is survived by three wives and several children.
The Zamfara APC described him as “a committed party leader and community advocate who dedicated his life to public service and humanitarian work.”

According to The PUNCH, a similar incident occurred a month ago , whereby five policemen and three Community Protection Guards were killed by bandits in Zamfara State.
An indigene of the area, Ya,u Musa, told The PUNCH that the victims were on patrol along the road and were ambushed by bandits.
Musa said, “The victims were approaching Gidan-Giye village, a few kilometres away from Tsafe town, the headquarters of Tsafe Local Government, when suddenly, the bandits came out of their hiding place, and opened fire on their vehicle.”
