Police Arrest Kidnappers, Armed Robbers In Delta

The Delta State Police Command led by CP Olufemi Abaniwonda has arrested several kidnappers, armed robbers, and car snatchers and recovered over 1,000 ammunition in a coordinated attack.

This was contained in a statement yesterday by Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.

According to him, “On 05/09/24 at 1330hrs Anti-crime patrol team of Aboh division, while on stop and search duty in Aboh town intercepted one motorcycle conveying two occupants carrying a bag, the occupants were subjected to a routine search, while the search was going on, one of them took to his heels and escaped.

“Nine Hundred and Thirty Rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were recovered in the bag. The other suspect Anthony Godday was immediately arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.

“On 12/09/2024 at about 0130hrs Crack Squad attached to Area Command Ughelli acting on a tip off, stormed a brothel cum criminal hideout in Ewu town Ughelli South LGA and arrested five suspects namely; Dominic Uweru “m” Alias Ovwolo 48YRS, Isaac Oghenerukevwe ‘m’ Alias Plug 34yrs, Oviri Godstime “m” 25yrs, Junior Sunday ‘m’ and Efedeki Adjovo ‘m’, one single barrel gun, three locally made cut-to-size gun, cash sum of Four hundred and fifty thousand naira (#450,000.00) ransom one Moniepoint POS machine, one OPAY POS machine, wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

“They confessed to various armed robbery/kidnapping operations in Ughelli and environs, including the kidnap of a 70-year-old woman (name withheld) who they kidnapped on 08/09/2024 and collected the sum of Seven million, Nine hundred thousand naira ransom (#7,900,000) on 10/9/2024 before her release. The suspects are in custody and investigation is ongoing.

“Acting on credible information, operatives of Agbarho police station stormed the house of one Ovoke Enaike m’ age 43yrs an indigene of Ovierie Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State but resides in Ehwerhe Village Agbarho, during the search of his daylong motorcycle with Reg. NO: DTS XLEH 13 WL, a nylon bag containing the following one Locally Fabricated Gun, one live cartridge, and thirty-eight rounds of AK 47 Rifle Ammunition hidden under the motorcycle seat was recovered.

“Suspect in Agbarho Police Custody, efforts are on top gear to arrest the remaining gang members and recover more arms case will be transferred to State Headquarters Asaba, a preliminary investigation is in progress, and further development will be communicated.

“On 09/09/2024 at about 1745hrs on credible intelligence, the commander CP Monitoring SP Inyere Elias Chinedu unit led operatives to KM 9 Asaba/Benin Express Way where two male suspects namely, Olisa Emenoha ‘m’ aged 26yrs of Ifete Awka, Iteke Uchenna Wilson ‘m’ aged 26yrs of road 21 Ngozika Estate Awka both from Anambra State were arrested in possession of Toyota Corolla with REG NO: AWK 597 ND Toyota Camry with REG NO: GDD 149 MA suspected to be stolen and they were about to dispose of the vehicles.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that they are serial car snatchers and one of the vehicles was snatched at a gunpoint in Akwa Ibom State.”

16 Passengers Lose Lives In Lokoja–Okene Highway Tragedy

At least 16 persons have been confirmed dead following a fatal road accident along the Lokoja–Okene highway in Kogi State.

In a post shared on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama, he said the tragic incident occurred at about 9:20 a.m. on Friday near Aku village around the Osara axis of the busy highway.

Security and traffic safety sources told Zagazola Makama that the accident involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number BUU 17 ZD carrying 22 passengers from Jos, Plateau State, to Lagos.

Security and traffic safety sources said the accident involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number BUU 17 ZD, conveying 22 passengers comprising 21 males and one female from Jos, Plateau State, en route to Lagos,” Makama said.

According to the sources, the vehicle reportedly lost control while moving at high speed, veered off the road and plunged under a bridge, leading to multiple casualties.

Preliminary findings attributed the accident to driver fatigue.

The sources disclosed that 16 occupants of the vehicle, including 15 men and one woman, lost their lives in the crash, while six other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Emergency responders were said to have arrived at the scene after receiving a distress call and immediately evacuated the injured victims to medical facilities in Osara and the Specialist Hospital in Lokoja for treatment.

The remains of the deceased victims were deposited at the Ankuri Mortuary in Lokoja.

Authorities, meanwhile, advised motorists to obey speed limits, ensure adequate rest during long-distance trips and strictly comply with road safety regulations to avoid preventable accidents and loss of life.

Ex-convict Arrested In Edo For Armed Robbery, Possession Of Firearm

The Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) has arrested a 45-year-old ex-convict, Owen Osas, for alleged unlawful possession of firearms and suspected involvement in a robbery incident.

Osas was reportedly arrested with a cut-to-size single-barrel gun during a covert operation along Fishpond Road in Eyean, Uhunmwonde Local Government Area.

The arrest reportedly comes barely a year after he was released from prison, where he had served time for illegal possession of firearms and other criminal offences.

Osas, who confessed to the latest crime, also admitted to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity.

Consequently, a victim of an alleged robbery incident, Reginia Izy, identified Osas as the person who robbed her a day before his arrest.

The victim narrated that the suspect had approached her residence around 8 p.m., pretending to be familiar before carrying out the attack.

‎The Deputy Commander Operations of ESSC, Richard Balogun, said the arrest was part of intensified efforts to rid Edo State of criminal elements.

‎Balogun explained that operatives conduct both overt patrols and covert operations to track and apprehend suspects.

He said, ‎“Our men are always on patrol. Some operate in plain clothes as part of covert strategies, while others are stationed at strategic locations.

“Osas, who is a former convict, was arrested with firearms and he also confessed to be a member of the Eiye Confraternity.”

Gunmen Kidnap Businessman In Ibadan

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a 60-year-old man in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The victim was kidnapped on Saturday while on his way to his residence.

The incident occurred at Jinarere, Alakia in Ibadan.

Public Relations Officer of the State Police command, Olayinka Ayanlade, when contacted, confirmed the incident.

Ayanlade in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Sunday, explained that efforts are ongoing to rescue the victim.

Ayanlade said, “Preliminary information reveals that the victim, a 60-year-old male and building materials trader, was accosted while returning home along the Jinarere axis of Alakia Road by four masked armed men, who forcefully whisked him away in an unregistered ash-coloured Toyota Corolla vehicle”.
