Police Arrest Man Over Girlfriend’s Death In Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has detained a 23-year-old man for allegedly beating his girlfriend to death.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to journalists on Monday in Lagos.

He stated that the suspect committed the offence on Friday at about 8:00 pm in the Ijedodo, Isheri-Osun area of the state.

Hundeyin explained that a neighbour reported the incident at the Isheri-Osun Police Divisional Station.

“The neighbour said he saw the suspect beating his girlfriend in his room for reasons yet to be determined.

“A few minutes later, the suspect screamed for help. On reaching his apartment, the neighbour found the girlfriend lying unconscious on the bed, with visible marks of violence on her body.

“She was immediately rushed to a hospital in Ijegun, where the doctor on duty confirmed her dead,” Hundeyin said.

The police spokesperson stated that detectives were immediately dispatched to both the crime scene and the hospital, where the corpse was inspected and photographed.

He added that the body had been deposited at a morgue in Yaba for an autopsy, while the suspect remained in custody for questioning. Investigations are ongoing.

Police Arrest Suspected Cultists, Gun Peddlers In Delta

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a gang of suspected cultists and gun peddlers and recovered from the hoodlums multiple firearms and ammunition.

This was contained in a statement issued by the police public relations officer for Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, copies of which were made available to journalists in Warri on Wednesday.

The police spokesman stated that the Command succeeded in tightening the net on violent crime with two decisive operations that led to arrests and the recovery of multiple firearms and ammunition.

According to him, on October 25, 2025, at about 1800hrs, a resident of Aviara community, under Oleh Division, intimated the police that on 22nd October, 2025, at about 0812hrs, a video depicting suspected Eiye cult activity was posted on a WhatsApp group known as “Real Men”.

Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Oleh Division, CSP Keme Osuluku, detailed his operatives to investigate the matter discreetly.

He said, “At 0800hrs on 26 October 2025, acting on preliminary findings, the operatives arrested the suspect linked to the post, Donatus Odovo, male (29), of Aviara community.

“Follow-up investigation led to the arrest of Zachariah Okeh, male (36), alleged to be an Eiye cult leader in Aviara.

“During execution of a search warrant at his residence, officers recovered one locally made double-barrelled gun, one locally made single-barrelled gun, and six live cartridges.”

Consequently, the exhibits were secured, and the suspects were taken into custody for further questioning, the PPRO said.

While noting that efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional collaborators, the PPRO maintained that “the actions, driven by credible intelligence, sent a clear signal to cult groups and robbery syndicates that the State is not a safe harbour”.

In another development, on October 27, 2025, at about 1345hrs, Rapid Response Squad operatives, while on stop-and-search duty along the Asaba-Benin expressway, intercepted a Toyota RAV4 with registration number EPE 189 GN.

The driver, Mordi Emmanuel (45), of No. 74, Family Estate, Asaba, complied with routine checks.

However, inside an envelope found in the vehicle, the police officers recovered one fabricated Beretta pistol with breech No. 5182207, with four live rounds.

Acting under the operational direction of the Rapid Response Squad Commander, CSP Nosa Alex, who coordinated the deployment and approved immediate follow-up actions, a team executed a duly obtained search warrant at the suspect’s residence, during which one pump-action shotgun with breech No. 20-R-3921, and four live cartridges were recovered from the house and premises.

The suspect and the exhibits are currently in custody while the investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has commended the vigilance of residents and the professionalism displayed by the officers involved.

The police boss reaffirmed the Command’s zero tolerance for cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping, and the unlawful possession of firearms, while also restating “the commitment to intelligence-led policing, community partnership, and strict respect for the law”.

He urged members of the public to remain security-conscious and to share timely, credible information with the police.

IFAD, Life-ND Train 630 Agriprenuers In Edo

Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises for Niger Delta (Life-ND) in collaboration with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Federal Government on Tuesday trained no fewer than 630 youths in agriprenuer in Edo State.

The trainees, regarded as incubatees, were simultaneously trained across the three Senatorial Districts of the state with the theme: Building a New Generation of Agriprenuers for Sustainable Food Security in Edo State.

Speaking at the orientation programme in Benin, the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Jerry Uwangue, said the programme “aligns perfectly with the vision of our state,” adding “to nurture young farmers into successful agriprenuers who can transform subsistence farming into profitable agribusiness ventures.”

Represented by Principle Igbinadion, Programme Manager, Agricultural Development Project (ADP), Uwangue said
the programme was not about training individuals, but “breeding a new generation of innovators, leaders, and wealth creators who will drive Edo State towards self-sufficiency in food production.”

Earlier in his remarks, State Coordinator, Life-ND, Mr. John Omoruyi, said the training “represents the beginning of a transformative journey,” adding that over “3,000 agriprenuers women and youth in the promotion of cassava, rice, fish and poultry commodities along with the corresponding value chain as well as Business Development Service (BSC) in Edo State,” have been captured.

He added that “together, we are building a new generation of skilled, self-reliant, and prosperous youths who will transform the agricultural landscape of Edo State and increase in the food basket of Nigeria.”

Ogun FRSC Spokesperson Dies After Protracted Illness

The Public Education Officer of the Ogun State sector command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, a Chief Route Commander, is dead.

The State Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, confirmed the demise of Okpe to our correspondent in a phone conversation on Tuesday.

Fasakin said that the former image maker of the command had been on a sick bed for a while before succumbing to death on Tuesday in her hometown in Cross River State.

The sector commander said, “We lost Okpe this morning, Tuesday; her family has confirmed the sad news. She had been sick for a while and attending the clinic here in Ogun until she was given medical leave, after which she travelled to her hometown in Cross River State, where she eventually died.

“Okpe was no doubt an enigma, a very sound, resourceful and professional officer of unparalleled dedication to duty. I have sincerely lost a very dutiful officer. She was very dear to me, and it’s been a sad day since we were told of her death.

“The command commiserates with her family and loved ones and pray that the Almighty God will grant all of us the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss.”
