Police Arrest Suspect With Fake $100,000 Notes

The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre has arrested a suspect, Muhammed Zenabdin, for criminal conspiracy and possession of suspected counterfeit currency during a raid in Abuja.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement read, “The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre, delivering on its mandate to stamp and decimate the trend of cyber crime in the country, has made a significant breakthrough following the apprehension of one Muhammed Zenabdin “M” for criminal conspiracy and possession of suspected counterfeit currency amounting to $100,000.

“While acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the NPF-NCCC conducted a raid on a suspected cybercrime hideout located in Garki II, FCT.

“Despite the escape of other members of the criminal gang, Muhammed Zenabdin “M” was successfully apprehended.

“Subsequent execution of a search warrant revealed compelling evidence, including $100,000 bills believed to be counterfeits, along with sophisticated counterfeit detection equipment, international passports, mobile phones, and a luxury vehicle.”

The statement further read that Zenabdin provided indicting confessional statements and also offered valuable information to aid in the apprehension of other members of the gang.

The suspect(s) will face arraignment in court following the conclusion of the investigation.

PUNCH reported in March that the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, arrested a couple, a former soldier and a printer, for producing fake currencies.

Similarly, in February, the Gombe State Police Command busted two currency syndicates in possession of $56,300 and N265,000 counterfeited notes.

Bandits Kill Pastor, Two Others In Fresh Plateau Attack

Bandits have again struck Suwa and Ding’ak villages in the Mushere chiefdom of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State, and killed three persons, including a pastor.

It was learnt that the attack occurred between 1pm and 2pm on Friday, resulting in the deaths of three individuals.

The Chairman of Community Peace Observers in Bokkos, Kefas Mallai, confirmed the killings to The PUNCH in Jos on Friday night.

Mallai identified the victims as Pastor Gideon Katings of COCIN Suwa, Sunday Ringkang, and Meshach Bukata.

He added that one Michael Kamshak and several others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Cottage Hospital, Bokkos.

Mallai also confirmed that hundreds of residents had been displaced due to the attack.

Mallai said, “Between 1:00 hours and 2:00 today, Friday, 8th August 2025, Suwa and Ding’ak villages in Mushere chiefdom of Bokkos LGA were attacked by terrorists leading to the untimely death of three including Pst Gideon Katings of COCIN Suwa, Sunday Ringkang, and Meshach Bukata; while Michael Kamshak and others were injured and currently receiving treatment at Cottage Hospital Bokkos.

“Several residents in their hundreds have been displaced.”

Spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, was not readily available when contacted by our correspondent, as his phone indicated that it was switched off.

The killings on Friday is the latest in a series of violent attacks experienced in Bokkos and surrounding areas.

In recent times, the council area has faced heightened insecurity, with more than 20 villagers killed in separate attacks in the last month and properties destroyed.

The chairman of Bokkos LGA, Amalau Samuel Amalau, had called on security agencies to take decisive action against these militias, citing the need to protect innocent lives and prevent further displacement.

The state governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has equally condemned the attacks, describing them as “genocide” and “a coordinated attempt at land grabbing.”

The governor has vowed to work with security agencies to bring perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of residents.

Court Jails Woman For N1.3m Fraud In Maiduguri

Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri, Borno State, on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, convicted and sentenced Kalthum Mustapha to three years imprisonment.

Kalthum was first arraigned on Monday, May 13, 2024, on a one-count charge for the offence of cheating to the tune of N1,350,000.00 (One Million Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira).

This was according to a statement by the Economic & Financial Crimes Commission on Friday.

The charge read: “That you, Kaltum Mustapha, sometime in June, 2022, at Maiduguri, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, dishonestly induced the duos of Muhammad Lawan Sani, Abubakar Umar, and Yusuf Jafar to deliver to you the sum of N 1,350.000.00 (One Million Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) for the supply of ready to use Therapeutic Food RUTF (a.k.a tammua packages) which you are yet to pay and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 320 (a) and punishable under Section 322 of the Penal Code Cap 102 Laws of Borno State.”

The anti-graft agency’s statement noted that the defendant pleaded not guilty, and as the matter proceeded for trial, counsel for the prosecution, Mukhtar Ali Ahmed and Faruku Muhammad, presented witnesses and tendered several documents as exhibits.

Justice Kumaliya in her judgment convicted and sentenced her with an option of fine in the sum of N50,000.00 (Fifty Thousand Naira) or in default to serve a six-month jail term.

“The judge further ordered the convict to pay the sum of N635,000.00 (Six Hundred and Thirty Five Thousand Naira) to her victims or to serve an additional two years imprisonment.

“The convict bagged her imprisonment when she was arrested for obtaining the sum of N 1,350.000.00 (One Million Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) for the supply of ready-to-use Therapeutic Food RUTF (a.k.a tammua packages) from her victims. She neither delivered the food package nor returned the money to them”, the statement concluded.

Residents Protest Bauchi Farmer’s Murder, Kill 20 Cows

The Bauchi State Police Command has disclosed the death of a man and cows in the Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Disclosing the development in a press release issued on Friday, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil explained that “Today, 8th August, 2025, the command received a report from one Emmanuel Bulus, the village head of Kaduna via Bogoro LGA, Bauchi State, that one Irmiya Yohanna m’, aged 40 years of Kaduna-Bogoro, went to farm situated at the outskirts of the village on Thursday and couldn’t return home.

“A search was conducted within and around the farm, and his lifeless body was found lying on the farm premises.”

He added that a team of policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Fitoka Golda, swung into action, visited the scene and moved the deceased to Bogoro General Hospital, where a medical doctor certified him dead.

Wakil stated that the preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was suspected to have been killed.

Subsequently, some irate locals invaded some cattle around the village, stabbed and killed approximately 20 cows, 19 sheep, and several were injured.

“About 249 cows were rescued by the police, and one Ahmadu Mairiga was arrested. He was suspected to be responsible for the tragic death of Irmiya Yohanna,” the statement added.

The PPRO revealed that the investigation further discovered that the deceased was on a visit to his farm and saw some cows grazing inside his farm.

He sought the herders to chase the cows out of his farm, which resulted in a physical confrontation that led to the tragic death,” Wakil said.

The PPRO stated that “the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the scene, met the chairman of Bogoro, Fulalani’s heads (Ardo), traditional rulers, Tsayawa leaders and other relevant stakeholders, and the general locals crowded at the frontage of Bogoro Divisional Police Headquarters, Bauchi.

“He addressed them on the efforts and measures put in place to address this tragic circumstance by the police command.

“The CP urged members of the Bogoro Community to exercise patience, warned them from breaching the law, appealed for calm, and assured them that justice would be served accordingly.”
