Police Arrest Suspected Armed Robber With Ammunition In Delta

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a suspected armed robber during a stop-and-search operation.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, said a ‘stop and search’ police patrol team recovered one locally made gun and two live cartridges from the suspected armed robber.

This was contained in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe on Thursday.

Olufemi stated that the police operatives also arrested three other suspects in possession of illicit drugs in large quantities in a commercial vehicle during the operation.

While expressing his appreciation to the officers for carrying out their duties diligently and outsmarting the suspects, Olufemi declared that under his watch, “the Command will do all it takes within the ambit of the law to ensure that a safer environment for all Deltans, residents and non-residents is achieved”.

The CP warned that “all forms of criminality, lawlessness, or behaviour that contravene the laws of the land will be dealt with accordingly”.

He, however, appealed to law-abiding members of the public to always report any criminal activities to the nearest police station or call the Command Control Room 08036684974; 08125958005; 09053872287 while alternatively, anonymous tip-off could be relayed via the PPRO Office 09155570007; 09155570008with confidence that the Command will act swiftly and treat their identities with utmost confidentiality”.

“On February 5, 2024, at about 0800 hours, while men of Dragon Patrol were conducting stop and search along Kwale – Ogwashi- Uku Expressway, they intercepted a commercial Sienna bus conveying passengers from Ughelli to Asaba”.

“The team subjected the passengers to a random search, during which one locally fabricated Pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from one Fidelis Akpos ‘m’ aged 23 years, a resident of Ewhu Community Ughelli South L.G.A.

“The suspect concealed the gun and cartridges inside a polythene bag containing smoked fish to serve as a decoy, but the professionally trained policemen uncovered the exhibit despite his antics.

“Suspect is presently in custody and investigation is ongoing,” the statement read.

“In another development, on February 7, 2024, at about 1100 hours, operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) while conducting stop and search at Head-Bridge Asaba, flagged down a Toyota Hiace bus for a routine check.

“During the search, three cartons containing 100 bottles of CSC Codeine and 400 sachets of 250mg of Tramadol, and some other suspected hard drugs were recovered from the trio of Lucky Emmanuel ‘m’ of Ughelli aged 40yrs, and Enunwuune Snu ‘m’ aged 46yrs, and Jacob Efedeye ‘m’ aged 32yrs.

“Suspects are in custody and investigation is ongoing”.

In December, the police arrested two suspected notorious church robbery syndicates in the state.

A Sharia Court in Kaduna, Kaduna State, has dissolved a two-year-old marriage between a couple, Harira Sanusi and Aliyu Yunusa.

The judge, Malam Salisu Abubakar-Tureta dissolved their marriage following a petition for divorce filed by Harira.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Harira accused Aliyu of calling her parents names and humiliating her.

A housewife, Lawal Modupe, has approached an Upper Area Court sitting at Kubwa, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), seeking the dissolution of her 17-year-old marriage to her husband, Ismaila on the grounds of lack of love and affection.

Modupe told the court that she got married Ismaila according to Islamic laws.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the mother of three stated that her husband sent her out of their matrimonial home on June 17, 2023.
