Police Detain Undergraduate For Faking Own Abduction, Death Police

The Police Command in Imo says it has detained 17-year-old Jesse Chidebere, a student of Imo State University (IMSU) for faking her abduction and death.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Henry Okoye, disclosed this in a statement issued in Owerri and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday.

Okoye noted that the hoax caused significant distress to Chidebere’s family and the university community.

The statement read in part: “On October 26, at approximately 10:00 p.m., police received a distress call from concerned citizens, reporting Chidebere missing.

“A message sent from her WhatsApp account claimed she had been abducted and killed, urging her family to go to the Orji Police Station for confirmation.

“In response, police operatives launched a search and discovered the following morning, October 27, that Chidebere was alive and had fabricated the story as a prank on social media.”

The PPRO added that an investigation was ongoing to ascertain her motive for the mischief, adding that she would face prosecution.

He further stated that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Aboki Danjuma, expressed concern over the “irresponsible behaviour, which wasted valuable resources and caused public panic”.

He urged parents to caution their children against engaging in dangerous pranks and spreading misinformation.

“The command remains committed to combating misinformation and ensuring a safe environment for all and sundry in the state,” he stressed.

In this case, Veronica Chiluya 30, , sued Sammy Shapi, 40, for divorce due to marital disputes.

Veronica told the court that the two got married in 2014 after Sammy paid K400 as dowry and together they have two children.

According to Zambia Daily Mail, she said all was well until 2021 when her husband bought a car after he went to do some work outside the country.

He started coming back home late and sometimes he would come the next day around 14:00 hours.

A Sharia Court in Kaduna, Kaduna State, has dissolved a two-year-old marriage between a couple, Harira Sanusi and Aliyu Yunusa.

The judge, Malam Salisu Abubakar-Tureta dissolved their marriage following a petition for divorce filed by Harira.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Harira accused Aliyu of calling her parents names and humiliating her.

A housewife, Lawal Modupe, has approached an Upper Area Court sitting at Kubwa, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), seeking the dissolution of her 17-year-old marriage to her husband, Ismaila on the grounds of lack of love and affection.

Modupe told the court that she got married Ismaila according to Islamic laws.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the mother of three stated that her husband sent her out of their matrimonial home on June 17, 2023.
