Police Has No Right To Search Phone – Edo CP Declares As He Calls For Force, Citizens’ Collaboration

The need for collaboration between the Nigeria police and citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria took the centre stage at the General Assembly of Edo Civil Society Organisations (EDOCSO) which held Saturday, February 10, 2024.

This month’s General Assembly which was interactive had in attendance the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, and other senior officers of the command.

Speaking on the topic: ‘Collaboration Between the Nigeria Police and Citizens for a Better Policing System in Nigeria,’ the Commissioner of Police said for Nigeria to be a well secure society, citizens must collaborate with the police in securing lives and properties, saying the police alone cannot do the job.

CP Adegboye who further said there’s need for mutual respect and trust between the police and the citizens, said this will give confidence to citizens to report crimes in their areas, and equally give necessary information to the police as regards crimes and criminality in their areas.

The CP, while urging members of the public to join in the fight against crimes through giving out necessary information to the police, assured that as far as he remains in Edo State whosoever gives out information to his men will be adequately protected.

He said: “Collaboration between the Nigeria Police and the citizens is crucial for the establishment of a better police system.”

He added: “It is essential to create an environment of trust, mutual respect and partnership between citizens and the police force. By working together, they can address security challenges, promote law and order, and ultimately contribute to better service.”

CP Adegboye continued: “Collaboration between the Nigeria Police and the citizens is essential for the development of a better system. By working together, the force can be more accountable, efficient and respectful of citizens rights, making Nigeria a safer and more secure country.”

On allegation of police collecting citizens phones for search, the Commissioner of Police said: “The Force Public Relations Officer had said it before, and I am going to say a police officer has no right to collect a citizen’s phone. It is a violation of citizens fundamental rights to free movement.”

Xenophobic Attacks: Nigerian Students To Picket MTN, MultiChoice, Other Businesses

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS South-West Zone D, has announced plans to picket South African companies in Nigeria following the ongoing xenophobic attacks in the country.

DAILY POST reports that some Nigerians were recently killed in South Africa over the violent attacks.

A statement issued to newsmen by Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, Coordinator, NANS South-West, Zone D, said that the association is mobilizing to take decisive and lawful action by organizing peaceful picketing and mass advocacy against South African business interests operating in Nigeria.

“We categorically state that the continued targeting of Nigerians under any guise is unacceptable and must come to an immediate end.

N5m, N10m Zero-interest Loans: SheVentures Opens Applications For Women Entrepreneurs

First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has opened a new round of applications for its SheVentures proposition, offering zero-interest loans of up to ₦10 million to women entrepreneurs to ease access to working capital and support business growth.

The facility provides loans ranging from ₦500,000 to ₦5 million under a general category, and ₦5 million to ₦10 million for sector-specific businesses, with funding capped at up to 50% of an applicant’s average monthly turnover.

At the centre of the offering is a 0% interest rate, with all charges embedded in a transparent structure.

Repayment is structured over four or six months, allowing businesses to match obligations with their cash flow cycles.

Yemisi Edun, Managing Director and Chief Executive of First City Monument Bank (FCMB), said the initiative reflects a deliberate approach to inclusive growth.
