Presidential Committee: Tinubu Appoints Yar’Adua, Kyari, Onanuga, 11 Others

Ahead of the May 29 inauguration, the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has submitted 14 names of eminent Nigerians that will make up the Presidential Transition Committee.

The committee has been saddled with the task of planning the week-long inauguration activities that will usher in Tinubu and his VP-elect, Senator Kashim Shettima, as president and vice-president of the country on May 29.

This was disclosed in a letter submitted the Secretary to the Government of Federation, Boss Mustapha, with six weeks left for the handing over ceremony.

The development is coming few weeks after the president-elect nominated former Lagos Finance Commissioner, Wale Edun and Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, into the committee.

When contacted, the Special Adviser to the President-elect, Dr Dele Alake, who is currently far away with his principal in Paris, the French capital, confirmed the report.

“Yeah, the list of the 14-man committee is authentic. It is genuine and few more names will come later,” Alake told our correspondent.

In the 14-member list of the PTC, the spokesman for the Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, will serve as Head of Media and Publicity while the current acting National Deputy Chairman (North) of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Abubakar Kyari, will coordinate and direct the committee’s finance and budget.

Also on the list is Col. Abdulazeez Yar’Adua, younger brother of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who was nominated as the head of security and ceremonial parade for the inauguration.

Other dignitaries include the Executive Director of Nigeria Export-Import Bank, Stella Okotete (Secretariat, Planning and Monitoring); APC National Women Leader, Dr Betta Edu (Medical Team); former governorship aspirant in Ekiti, Makinde Araoye (Venue, Parade and Swearing in); ex-Director General of National Broadcasting Commission, Dr. Danladi Bako (Inauguration Lecture) and Zainab Marwa-Abubakar, daughter of the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), who will anchor the pre-Inauguration dinner and gala night.

Other members of the committee are Samira Saddik (Children’s Day), Abuh Andrew Abuh (Accommodation), Hajiya Hadiza Mohammed Kabir (Transportation and Logistics), Donald Wokoma (Protocol and Invitation), Bishop Adegbite (Church Service) and Imam Faud (Jumat Service).

2027: Wike Refuses To Confirm Or Deny Chinda’s Governorship Bid

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has reacted to reports that a federal lawmaker, Okey Chinda, has obtained forms to contest the Rivers State governorship election under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Speaking during a media chat on Wednesday, Wike neither confirmed nor denied the reports about Chinda’s alleged ambition.

However, he maintained that the PDP in Rivers State will participate in the upcoming election.

Responding to Dax George-Kelly, who is also said to have obtained a governorship nomination form under the All Progressives Congress, APC, Wike said George-Kelly is a member of the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State.

He stated that the coalition will collectively decide which candidate to support when the time comes.

Peter Obi Meets US Consul General, Hopes For Credible Polls In 2027

Chieftain of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi on Tuesday held a meeting with United States Consul General, Mr Rick Swart.

Obi made this known via his X handle.

He said “This morning, in Lagos, I met with the U.S. Consul General, Mr Rick Swart, where we discussed strengthening the bilateral relationship. We focused on promoting credible elections in Nigeria, ensuring they are free from interference, and fostering a space where all political parties, especially opposition parties can thrive, and contribute.

“We also discussed trade and business opportunities between our countries. Accompanying me to the meeting was Dr Adefolaseye Adebomi Adebayo.

“The discussion was very productive, and we are hopeful that, moving forward, Nigeria’s elections will be even more credible and transparent.”

BREAKING: 17 ADC Reps Follow Join NDC

About 17 African Democratic Congress, ADC, lawmakers in the House of Representatives have defected to the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC.

This was disclosed by Speaker Abass Tajudeen on the floor of the House on Tuesday.

Tajudeen also announced the defection of Leke Abejide from the ADC to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Lawmakers who defected to the NDC include Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, George Oluwande and Munachim Umezuruike.

Others are Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene and Abdulhakeem Ado.

This comes barely a day after former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso defected from the ADC to the NDC.

Obi and Kwankwaso have pledged to continue their pursuit for a better Nigeria in the NDC.
