Elections: INEC Issues Certificates Of Return To Winners In Lagos Thursday

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has fixed Thursday for issuance of Certificates of Return to winners in the March 18 Governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.

Mr Olusegun Agbaje, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Lagos State, disclosed this in a statement on Monday by Mrs Adenike Tadese, Head of Department, Voter Education and Publicity.

Tadese said: “INEC Lagos State has scheduled Thursday, March 30, for issuance of the Certificates of Return to the Governor and Deputy Governor–Elect and the elected members of the State House of Assembly.

“The event shall take place at the Media Centre, State Office, 6, Birrel Avenue, Yaba, Lagos by 11:00 am.”

According to her, attendance at the presentation of certificates is strictly by invitation.

She urged participants to be orderly and organised during the event.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of APC was re-elected for a second term, along with his running mate and deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, in the March 18 Governorship election in the state.

Also, APC candidates won 38 of the 40 seats in the Lagos State House of Assembly during the March 18 state assembly election, while Labour Party candidates clinched two.

Like Jonathan, Nigerians Will Yearn For Buhari After Leaving Office – Aide

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said Nigerians will yearn for President Muhammadu Buhari when he leaves office on May 29.

Shehu stated this in an interview on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily on Monday.

According to him, Nigerian leaders are not loved while in office, but are missed when they leave.

Shehu lamented over the level of criticisms thrown at the President, adding that leaders are not loved while in office.

He said former President Goodluck Jonathan, who was “persecuted out of office, has now become the favourite of many Nigerians.”

According to him, this same yearning will happen after Buhari has handed over to the next President.

On the cashless policy, Shehu affirmed that the current cashless policy of the present administration is desirable and irreversible.

Election Tribunal Grants Order For LP To Inspect Delta Guber Polls Materials

Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has granted an order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to allow Labour Party, LP, and its Candidate for the March 18, 2023 governorship election in the state, Kennedy Pela, to inspect the election materials used in the just concluded polls.

The party and its candidate had approached the tribunal in petition No: EPT/DL/GOV/02M/2023, seeking an order to grant them leave to inspect all electoral materials used in the conduct of the election.

The petition has the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Governor-elect, Rt. Hon Sherrif Oborevwori and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the first, second and third Respondents respectively.

Chairman of the Tribunal, C. H. Ahuchagu, while granting the order, stated that “Leave be and is hereby granted that the Applicant to bring this application before the pre-hearing session.

“In line with section 146 of the electoral Act, 2022, this Tribunal hereby grants an order directing the 1st Respondent forthwith to allow the applicants and/or their representatives to inspect polling documents and obtain Certified True Copies of all polling documents in the custody of the 1st Respondent used for the just concluded governorship elections held March 18th, 2023 to enable the Applicants institute and maintain an election petition.

“The Applicants are allowed to inspect and obtain the Certified True Copies of any documents or packet in the custody of the Chief National Electoral Commission, this Honourable Tribunal being satisfied that the order required is for the purpose of maintaining an election petition.”.
