Safety Shooters, Grasshoppers In Good Start As Prudent Energy Handball Tournament Commences

SAFELY Shooters, Lagos Seasiders, Kano Pillars, Safety Babes, Imo Grasshoppers all won their opening games on Thursday on the opening day of Prudent Energy Handball Premier League holding at the Indoor Sports Hall, Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

The defending champions in the male event, Safety Shooters handed Plateau Vipers 22-18 defeat for the first since the current sponsor, Prudent Energy took over the funding of the premier league.

The duel was a close contest watched by a delightful fans, who trooped to the centre to watch the epic encounter.

In the other male games, Lagos Seasiders narrowly beat De: Defenders 22-21, as Kano Pillars humbled Confluence Stars 29-26 played yesterday.

In the female class, Safety Babes opened their account by beating Kada Stars 24-17, while Imo Grasshoppers had no mercy over new entrant to the premier league, Bayelsa Queens, who they beat 36-26.

However, Day two of the championship will begin today with clashes in the male fixtures as Kada Stars will take on Safety Shooters in the first match, while Plateau Vipers will slug it out with Niger United, as Kano Pillars battle D: Defenders.

Other games are new entrant, Police Machines taking on Lagos Seasiders, while another new comer, Tojemarine Academy will try their strength against old horse, Confluence Stars.

In the female category, Imo Grasshoppers will square up with Edo Dynamos, while the defending champions, Adorable Angels will meet Defenders Babes, as COAS Shooters have a date against Rima Babes.

Other games are Bayelsa Queens against Safety Babes, Kada Queens versus Seasider Babes, Confluence Queens against Plateau Peacorks.

According to Fabrizio Romano’s post on X on Monday, the Portuguese have dismissed rumours of leaving Al Nassr.

The post read, “Cristiano Ronaldo confirms plan to stay at Al Nassr by signing a new deal.

“My future? Basically, nothing is gonna change. Staying at Al Nassr? Yea.”

Brazil Star, Neymar Tests Positive For COVID-19

Brazil forward Neymar has been sidelined after testing positive for COVID-19, Santos announced in a statement cited by Brazilian media.

The 33-year-old began showing symptoms on Thursday and was immediately withdrawn from all team activities. Medical tests later confirmed the viral infection, the Brazil Serie A club said on Saturday.

Santos did not specify how long Neymar will be out of action and did not respond immediately to a Reuters request for comment.

Neymar is already set to miss Thursday’s league match at Fortaleza due to suspension.
