The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Projects, SERAP, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to withdraw the impermissible conditions imposed on Twitter pending the final determination of the suit at the ECOWAS Court of Justice in Abuja.

SERAP is in court challenging the legality of the suspension of Twitter.

SERAP said that the withdrawal is to allow the court to render a decision on the central issues in the case and protect the plaintiffs’ rights and interests.

It disclosed this in a tweet via its Twitter handle on Sunday morning.

SERAP’s tweet read, “BREAKING: We’ve asked President Buhari to withdraw the impermissible conditions on Twitter, pending the determination of the ECOWAS court suit challenging the legality of #TwitterBan

“This would protect the plaintiffs’ rights and allow the court to render a decision in the case.

“The open letter sent yesterday, read in part: “The conditions make a mockery of the pending case, and create a risk that the course of justice will be seriously impeded or prejudiced in this case. It is in the public interest to keep the streams of justice clear and pure.”

Meanwhile, President Buhari on Friday announced that he had directed a conditional lifting of the ban placed on Twitter.

Justice V. Srishananda, while ruling on the bail application, reportedly held that errors relating to the grounds of arrest could not automatically justify bail in serious narcotics-related offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, NDPS, Act.
