Simi Awaits NAPTIP Probe As Controversy Over Past Tweets Flares

Singer and mother, Simi, is reportedly awaiting the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) probe as controversy over her past tweets continues to fester amid claims that some of her posts suggest inappropriate conduct at a daycare linked to her family.
The agency has launched a full-scale investigation following viral social media posts that reignited debates around the artiste, with the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency also calling for preliminary inquiries into the matter.
The development comes after resurfaced tweets from between 2012 and 2014 drew widespread attention.

Trouble began when Simi used social media to condemn s3xual violence and defend rape victims, stating that almost every woman she knows has experienced sexual assault and urging men to confront a culture of silence and denial. She stressed that allegations should not be dismissed simply because some may turn out false.
As her advocacy gained traction, some social media users unearthed older posts. In one tweet, she wrote, “Why this 4 yr old boy tryna put hand inside my shet. Ogbeni wash it o.” In another, she said, “I love to kiss the kids at my mom’s daycare — they’re super adorable and I’m crazy about ‘em.” The posts prompted outrage, with critics accusing her of hypocrisy, though supporters argued her advocacy remains genuine.
Rather than issue an outright apology, Simi has maintained that her stance against s3xual assault is sincere and not performative. She revealed that members of her team deleted some of the old tweets due to their sensitivity, particularly as they involved her family. She emphasised that while she does not claim to be perfect, she has always spoken out against sexual violence.

The Lagos State Domestic and S3xual Violence Agency (DSVA) has also weighed in, requesting the Ogun State Government conduct a preliminary investigation into the allegations linked to the resurfaced tweets. In parallel, NAPTIP’s Director General, Binta Adamu Bello, directed operatives to commence a full-scale investigation into possible child molestation or abuse at the daycare facility associated with Simi’s family. The agency encouraged anyone with credible information or evidence to come forward confidentially.
Questions are now being asked about how the singer is currently handling the controversy, particularly as she has remained absent from social media for over a week.
Fans and observers alike have noted her silence, with speculation growing about whether she is stepping back to reflect, consult with legal or PR advisers, or manage the situation privately.
Social media reactions remain divided. Some users continue to criticise her, claiming she should have been more cautious with past statements and interactions, while others defend her, asserting that the tweets are being misinterpreted and praising her for speaking out against sexual violence.
