Thunderstorm Kills Five-year-old Boy In Katsina

A five-year-old boy, Abdulmalik Junaidu, was on Monday at about 7pm struck to death by thunderstorm in Nasarawa Yanlemu community in Bakori LGA of Katsina State.

Malam Junaidu Gide, the father of the victim said, “When I closed from work at the motor park after Maghrib prayers, it was raining.

“As the rain subsided, I went home and asked for the children. The mother told me that they went to the mosque.

“A few minutes later, Abdulmajid, the elder brother of the deceased, came home horrified, saying that something heavy hit them on their way home and that his brother was there lying down on the road.

“When we got to him, I took him to the Funtua General Hospital where he was confirmed dead.”

The father explained that the boy’s body was burnt from chest downwards, saying that because of night and the rain, they buried Abdulmalik last Tuesday morning according to Islamic rites.

He added that they had terrible thunderstorms last Monday from their area up to Funtua, stressing that “most people were not surprised when they heard that it struck my little son.”

Ondo: Father Arrested For Defiling 14-year-old Daughter For Six Years

The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested one Abraham Achibong,40, for allegedly defiling his 14-year-old daughter at Ile-Oluji community, in the Ile-Oluji Oke Igbo Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Aidamenbor Daniel, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, May 24, 2024, said Achibong had been sexually molesting the victim since she was eight years old.

“Mr. Abraham Achibong age 40 years, a farmer was arrested for molesting his daughter who is now 14 years old, since she was eight years old. This had been going on for six years until a few days ago when the girl (name withheld) summoned the courage to confide in her teacher when the Ondo State Primary Health Care officers visited her school on a sensitisation programme on Human Papillomavirus vaccine,” the statement read.

“The suspect has since confessed to the crime, and he would be prosecuted in the law court for his crime of rape, molestation, and incest.”

Court Jails Man For Spraying Naira Notes At Funeral Ceremony In Edo

Justice C.A. Obiozor of the Federal High Court sitting in Benin City has convicted and sentenced one Osazee Kenneth Imagbenikaro to jail for spraying naira notes.

Imagbenikaro was convicted on a two count charge for offence bordering on spraying naira notes on Thursday May 16, 2024 contrary to Section 21(3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (Establishment ) Act 2007 and punishable under Section 21 (1) of the same Act.

One of the counts reads: “That you Osazee Kenneth Imagbenikoro (m) on or about the 28th day of April 2023 at Ogida Police Barracks, Benin City, Edo State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did spray N100 notes at a funeral ceremony and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 21 (3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (Establishment ) Act 2007 and punishable under Section 21 (1) of the same Act.”

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him in court. Based on his plea, prosecution counsel, Francis Jirbo prayed the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.

However, defence counsel prayed the court to temper justice with mercy and that the defendant has become remorseful for his action.

Justice Obiozor convicted and sentenced Imagbenikaro to six months imprisonment on each of the count or a fine of N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand) each.

The defendant is to undertake in writing to be of good behaviour going forward.

Man Pleads Guilty To Stealing 2 Television Sets From Church

An Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, on Friday remanded a 22-year-old man, Victor Orlando, who pleaded guilty to stealing two television sets from a church.

The Magistrate, Miss K. A. Ariyo, directed that Orlando should be kept in a custodial facility pending review of facts of the case and judgment.

Ariyo adjourned the case until June 11 for review of facts and judgment.

Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 13 at 4.00 a.m. at No. 5, Okunogbe Street, Egbe, Ikotun, Lagos State.

Aigbokhan said that the defendant stole a 50-inch plasma television set worth N600,000 and a 45-inch smart television set worth N220,000.

The prosecutor said that the television sets belonged to the Shining Light Church.

He said that the defendant was caught in the act by security guards, who handed him over to the police.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
