Traditional Stool: Protests Rock Osun Community

Another crisis has rocked Ikirun the headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State as members and supporters of the Obaara ruling house on Friday came out en masse to demand the immediate crowning of Prince Lekan Akadiri as the Akinrun of Ikirun.
It was gathered that the protests were triggered by the allegation that some town leaders were acting against the will of the people by planning to impose another candidate against their choice of Akadri.
report says Akadri had been the popular choice of Ikirun Kingmakers who rightfully elected him as Akinrun-elect and also the choice of the oracle.
While maintaining that the choice of Akadri as Akinrun-elect was fair and valid, Owolabi Tijani, on behalf of the protesters added that it was the best for the town’s people and imposition of another candidate will not be acceptable.
Tijani also said the protest was against the decision of Osun State High Court, Ikirun Division which granted an order of interim injunction disqualifying the candidates of Obaara and Adedeji ruling houses from contesting for the vacant Akinrun stool.
DAILY POST recalls that Justice A. A. G. Onibokun on the 25th of November restrained the Osun State Government from accepting any nomination outside the Gboleru ruling house.
Prior to that, there had been disputes between the Gboleru ruling house which was supposed to produce the next Akinrun and the Obaara and Adedeji ruling houses.
The Gboleru ruling house was supposed to produce the next Akinrun but due to misunderstanding amongst qualified princes, an Osun State High Court in Ikirun presided over by Justice Jide Falola on 5th November, directed that the Obaara as the next ruling house in line to produce the next Akinrun do it.

The Osun State Government through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs had also expressed its readiness to carry out the court order.
Due to the judgment, members of the Gboleru ruling house on Sunday, November 21, staged a town-wide protest in Ikirun to press home their right to the throne in conformity with the Chieftaincy law.
In conforming with the court order, the town’s kingmakers announced on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, the nomination of Prince Yunus Akadri as next Akinrun, a move they claimed was the endorsement of the choice of the oracles.

He was accused of purchasing MDMA crystals and distributing them to college students and information technology workers.
According to reports, operatives of the Beguru Police arrested Cristian Soporuchukwu in April 2025 for allegedly selling MDMA crystals around Begur Lake and the AECS Layout Road area.

Justice V. Srishananda, while ruling on the bail application, reportedly held that errors relating to the grounds of arrest could not automatically justify bail in serious narcotics-related offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, NDPS, Act.
