Updated: Seven Rescued, One Missing In Lagos Building Collapse

Speaking on the new development, Director of LSFRS, Mrs. Magret Adeseye, said one of the victims trapped under the rubble of the collapsed building remain missing.

She stated that the seven-storey building that collapsed in Banana Island is one out of the three highrise structures under construction in the area.

Her words “The other two are still standing at nine floors tall, most likely to undergo an integrity test soon.

“Seven rescued alive with varying degrees of injury while one is still trapped as search and rescue operations is still ongoing until ground zero is achieved,” Adeseye stated.

Giving an update on the building collapse, Deputy Director, Public Affairs Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mukaila Sanusi, said “an unapproved 7-floor building under construction collapsed.”

He said, “Few who sustained injuries are being treated. There is no fatality. This unfortunate incident happened while casting was being done.”

LASEMA speaks

Speaking on the situation report, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, said, “the collapsed building at 1st Avenue, Banana Island, Ikoyi, the Agency activated its response plan and upon arrival at the scene of the incident, discovered that a seven storey building under construction had collapsed.

“Inspection revealed that the building was damaged by a cement mixer truck, which drove into the building columns.

“A head count carried out by the Chief Security Officer, CSO, Anthony Onah of the construction site has an adult male unaccounted for. His where about is unknown.

JUST IN: Oyo LG Polls: Hoodlums Attack Electoral Officials, Snatch Ballot Papers [PHOTO]

Hoodlums suspected to be political thugs have reportedly snatched ballot papers meant to be used for local government elections in Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo state.

DAILY POST gathered that the ballot papers were hijacked by the hoodlums in the early hours of Friday.

The ballot papers are to be used in the local government election slated for Saturday.

The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC, is conducting the election in all the 33 local government areas in the state.

A source noted that the snatched ballot papers have been recovered from the suspects.

He added that about 14 suspects have been arrested.

The source who bagged not to be named, also revealed that the affected ballot papers have been taken back to Ibadan.

OYSIEC Chairman, Isiaka Olagunju, when contacted, confirmed the attack on electoral officials.

He, however, said that no ballot paper was snatched.

Olagunju, in a telephone conversation with DAILY POST on Friday, maintained that the Divisional Police Officer in the town has been mandated to arrest the suspects.

“That is not true. The fact is that there was an attack on our officials last night.

“Our officials were attacked at our office at Okeho. No ballot paper was snatched.

“In fact, the DPO of Okeho and other security agencies followed our EO to come back to Ibadan. They just went back to Okeho now. And we have directed the DPO of Okeho to arrest the suspects. That is what happened.”

BREAKING: Scores Trapped As Building Collapses In Kano

Yet-to-be ascertained number of people are currently trapped in the rubble of a building which collapsed in the Kuntau area of Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.

Sources said at least eleven persons are trapped under the rubble, mostly workers.

Excavation is currently ongoing while some corpses have been recovered.

PHOTOS: FCCPC Raids Supermarkets In Port Harcourt, Seizes Underweight, Re-bagged Rice

Operatives of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission FCCPC on April 25, raided supermarkets in Port Harcourt, seizing underweight and re-bagged rice.

The commission disclosed this on its X handle.

It wrote:‘’FCCPC’s South-South Zonal Office conducted a routine enforcement operation in some supermarkets in the Woji area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, targeting underweight and re-bagged rice. Products that were suspected to be substandard were evacuated for further investigation.”
