US-born Nigerian Actress, Ade, Breaks Silence On Alleged 150k Indebtedness To Late Murphy Afolabi

The US-born Nigerian actress, Adunni Ade, has refuted the allegation that she was owing the late actor, Murphy Afolabi, N150,000 before his death.

Murphy Afolabi died on Sunday, May 14, 2023, after he reportedly slipped and fell in the bathroom.

During his eight-day Muslim burial prayers, on Monday 22, an Islamic cleric accused Adunni Ade of owing the late actor.

The cleric said the actress and other Nollywood actors owed Afolabi before his demise, and they should refund the money.

But, In her reaction to the allegation by her lawyer, the actress took to her Instagram account on Tuesday, May 23, and dismissed the accusation.

She said she refunded the late actor the sum of N150,000 sent to her for a movie role in 2021.

The actress, who shared a screenshot of her bank statement, said, “Sometimes in July 2021, the late Mr Murphy Afolabi reached out to me, requiring my services for a movie production.

“He appealed to me stating that it was a self-funded production that he couldn’t afford my professional fee, but that he would need my moral support.

“I asked how many scenes and duration expected of me on set. He said 10 scenes and that I would spend one day. He offered to ‘fuel my car’ as honorarium, which payment was made on 02 July 2021 for N150,000.

“Unfortunately, on 11 July 2021 shortly before the commencement of the production, I lost my younger brother. I contacted Mr Murphy Afolabi a few days afterwards to request for his bank account details, to send him a refund, as I would be travelling to the United States for my younger brother’s funeral, and to spend time with the rest of my family.

“He insisted I held on to the money while he figured out whether to move the shoot forward or contact me for another one.

“I returned to Lagos end of September 2021 and waited for his call. Mr. Murphy Afolabi contacted me on 08 October 2021 and said he wanted to start a new job soon and needed me for 4 days, playing the lead but for the same amount of N150,000 which he had paid in July.

“I respectfully declined, requested his bank account details, and transferred to his bank account the full refund of N150,000 on the same day, 08 October 2021.”

Social Media Feud Spills Into Aircraft As VDM, Mr Jollof Exchange Blows

There was confusion aboard an Abuja-bound aircraft yesterday when social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), and comedian Freedom Atsepoyi, widely called Mr Jollof, engaged in a physical fight, leaving passengers in shock.

The altercation, captured in a video now circulating online, began as a heated exchange before escalating into a full-blown scuffle.
The incident occurred on board the Asaba flight of United Nigeria Airlines (UNA).

The duo were immediately deboarded by the management of the airline in compliance with safety standards.
Cabin crew and frightened passengers hurried to intervene as the two men traded blows inside the packed aircraft.

Although details of what triggered the confrontation remained sketchy as of press time, the clash is believed to be a spillover from an ongoing online feud between VDM and Mr Jollof’s wife.

Shortly after the incident, VDM posted a video on his Facebook page claiming he had confronted the comedian during the fracas.

I don chop Jollof’s father for inside the plane. He bite me, man wey de bite,” he alleged.

He insisted that Mr Jollof bit him during the struggle.

Attempts by The Guardian to speak with both men were unsuccessful, as calls and messages had not been returned as of press time.

Efforts to get clarification from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) were also unsuccessful.

The aviation industry has, in recent years, expressed worry over rising cases of unruly passenger behaviour, with experts warning that such incidents pose serious safety risks and calling for stricter enforcement of penalties.

United Nigeria Airlines, in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Chibuike Uloka, confirmed the incident onboard its Asaba flight.

The airline stated that, in full compliance with global aviation safety protocols, its crew responded immediately and professionally to de-escalate the situation.

The statement said: “Both passengers were deboarded without delay to ensure the safety, comfort, and security of all other passengers and crew members. They were subsequently handed over to airport security for further investigation.

“United Nigeria Airlines places the highest priority on safety and maintains a zero-tolerance policy for any conduct that threatens the security or well-being of passengers or crew. After all standard procedures were completed, the flight departed safely while the passengers involved in the altercation were still with the authorities.”

The airline reiterated its commitment to providing a safe, respectful, and secure travel experience across its network.

A fan had praised Don Jazzy, saying he has the best and most unique voice in the Nigerian music industry. However, in his response, Don Jazzy said that while he agrees he has the most unique voice, Wande Coal has the best.

Senator Ned Nwoko’s Moroccan wife, Laila Charani, has accused her co-wife, Regina Daniels, of introducing her to illicit drugs.

She made the allegation in a recent post on Instagram after Daniels claimed that her husband’s other wives were also into drugs.

Charani claimed that it was her husband’s quick intervention that saved her from losing her marriage after Regina Daniels introduced her to drug addiction.

She also claimed that the only reason Regina Daniels is fighting with their husband is because he wants her to stop drug and alcohol addiction, stressing that the lawmaker doesn’t smoke nor take alcohol.

Charani urged Regina Daniels to seek psychological help and leave Ned Nwoko’s other wives out the her scandal with their husband.

Regina Daniels is yet to react to Charani’s allegations.
